Ford and Dodge transmission designs are licensed from ZF. I would stay away from first year anything in general.. that includes the Dodge.
With DI, you use less fuel. But because the vapour is finer, it actually get further into your skin / mucus linings so there are more potential to do more harm than before. Quote:

as for running a diesel in a 1/2 tone truck. it makes no sense. diesel is tipically a lot more maintenance and the engines are designed to move really heavy loads. loads probably bigger then the frame and axles can handle. if your looking at a 1/2 ton and feel you NEED a diesel then you probably should be looking at something bigger.
not to mention they are also usually a really expensive upgrade.
on a side note, spent the day ripping around in the new truck. loving it so far. it's SO much quieter then my previous 05 fx4. i'll snap a couple pics in the daylight tomorrow. | im not disagreeing with you. but the ram ecodiesel for example is a small v6, i dont think its designed for towing heavy loads so much as it is for better fuel economy with similar capability to a v8.
if diesels were so much more expensive than why do most pickups/suvs outside of north america have diesels. in europe many cars even have diesels.

i tried to find what the cost of that ecodiesel but couldn't even find it on ramtruck.ca but assuming it's like a 1k option plus the increase cost in diesel fuel how could you justify going that route even if it gets a couple l/100km better mileage?
and you can't compare europe vs NA there are very good economic and governmental policy reasons why there are so many diesel vehicles in europe vs NA. and it definitely doesn't mean that diesels are better then gas engines.
edit: i found an unconfirmed magazine review that said the ecodiesel is a 4k upgrade... http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-drive-review

Because places in Europe their Diesel is subsidized, not to mention their diesel is from the Middle East which makes them to have less sulfur by default (vs our Alberta crude).. too bad we can't get Bakken stuff here. Quote:

edit: i found an unconfirmed magazine review that said the ecodiesel is a 4k upgrade... 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel V-6 First Drive ? Review ? Car and Driver | 4k over the v6 which is not even comparable in terms of power and torque. its 2800 over the v8, its 22 mpg combined vs 16 for hemi, diesel is about 1.45 vs 1.28 for gas. so at 20k per year is 1318 for diesel and 1600 for gas so pays for itself in 9 years or so. higher resale probaly offset by higher maintenance cost.
sp assuming my math is correct then id have the say the diesel is not really worth it.

Maintenance will be lower assuming there are no design issues like oil leaks etc.. no need for O2 sensors by itself should make life easier. Quote:

If you think a diesel truck engine is going to have less maintenance costs than a gas truck engine you need to think again man........ holy balls........... ask any guy with a F350 or Cummins Dodge what his maintenance bills are.

You are missing the equivalency..
This is a 3L diesel at least compare it with a same class and weight.
If you use F350 and Cummins as expensive to mantain, I can throw the VW TDI as cheaper to maintain too... or the Volvo DH12C as expensive too. Heavy duty diesel mechanics exist for a reason. Quote:

My 2011 F350 6.7L powerstroke the oil change + tire rotation ran into $180 after tax at a ford dealer. Plus another $20 for the urea fluid.
My 2013 F150 3.5L ecoboost the oil change + tire rotation is $80 after tax at a ford dealer.
Keep in mind that a diesel engine can go longer between service intervals.
Not too bad considering a C-class oil change is $250.
