I detailed the breakdown for what miles/currency I used down below. Quick question, I didn't realize that South African Airways flew Tokyo-YVR...? Or a HKG-PVG-PEK-ICN-HND routing for that matter...

A bit of both - the QR A380 F portion to CAI are not AAdvantage but actually FT's new darling buy-able currency, GOL Smiles. It's the new Lifemiles! I'm actually burning Lifemiles for the LAX-NRT-BKK F flights, as I am holding too much and I'm scared for another devaluation.
However, the CAI-DOH-FRA-CPH is paid - QR has some seriously cheap J/F fares out of Cairo, and the SAS flight is only $100CAD in Y so I decided to pay rather than use miles.

Airline of the year (Or rather, I mean 3rd best) is on the news YET AGAIN! This time instead of a labour dispute, it is their epic cost cutting measures that have bitten them back in the ass in the form of water contamination. Why water the dogs in economy class with bottled drinking water when we can give them what other airlines consider to be non-potable water?
Cathay Pacific is providing bottled water to 14 planes and sterilising water tanks on those jets after samples of drinking water taken from them failed to meet standards.
The airline said this morning samples taken from a “small number of aircraft” were not up to the airline’s standards and it was arranging sterilisation.
“As a precautionary measure, we will be serving passengers and crew bottled water on those aircraft,” a spokeswoman said.
“Additional bottles of mineral water will be uplifted and we always make sure that a sufficient quantity of water is available in-flight,” she said.
The Health Department said it had been notified by the airline yesterday afternoon that 14 flights were involved.
DON'T MISS: Airport chaos could have been avoided if Hong Kong had adopted X-shaped proposal, says aviation watchdog
The department said health officials were now investigating with the airline and the Airport Authority to find out the cause of the substandard potable water from the Cathay flights.
The airline’s spokeswoman today could not give further details about the test results, such as if the samples involved excessive amounts of bacteria, or which flight routes were affected.
She said the airline’s engineering division had been working with its maintenance and services providers to identify the cause.
She said that as testing would take several days, the affected aircraft would continue to have bottled water uploaded for every flight.
Usual hot beverages and cup noodles would still be served, using boiled water, the spokeswoman added.
The head of the Cathay Pacific Airways Flight Attendants Union, Dora Lai Yuk-sim, said crew members had been told that drinking water from the flights’ tanks must be boiled. She said however they were not told the reason.
Lai hoped the airline could find out the cause quickly.
Of Course, management is still celebrating over winning the 3rd best airline of the year, having losing the title to Qatar and Singapore. (You know, they actually had to pay the cabin+cockpit crew this year, so they couldn't fork out the money to buy the award anymore)
man the secret service is so boss. But I think the vice presidents motorcade is a lot smaller than the president. Traffic is going to suck either way when they zoom by.
And there's very little chance of the government approving that traffic - I can't think of a route that the Canadian gov't would give TK.
Though a YVR-LHR TK A380 run would be incredibly awesome.
I flew an EK A380 from Ams to Shanghai via Dubai in business, wasn't over enamored.
First flight was 100% empty in first class, and about 60% empty in business. Second flight 100% empty in first, 20% empty in business
landing in dubai at about midnight... circled for an hour, then no gates were available, had to exit plane onto the tarmac before a 30 min bus ride around airport
flying to shanghai, similar story, 20 or so mins circling, then tarmac exit / 20 min ride around the airport
it all just felt odd - half empty business class, 2 disembarks onto tarmac, not the classy trip i was expecting.
on EK, food was very good (best I had was on Garuda Indonesia recently - but it was a nice curry, which I'm slightly impartial to), and the pick up / drop off in a big german car was nice, but the service was a bit painful - far too many air stewardesses (just felt odd), and all the bathrooms were at the back of business where the bar is (no one used the bar, as far as i could tell), too many air stewardesses in the way (they weren't the nicest / best service air stewardesses i've had - garuda indonesia has, by far, the best service - plus really hot stewardesses)
also flew on a 787 recently - slept through entire flight unfortunately, seemed nice - i'm all for efficiency improvements in airplanes
from my last year of travelling a lot in business, i have the following comments:
Vietnamese - surprisingly good
thai - ok, thought it'd be better
garuda indonesia - new fleet, concentration on service, HOT stewardesses - only 2 flights, but really liked them, best experience/fights i've had
philippines airlines - ok, new a330's have nice business class
EK - see above, won't be planning on using them again when i get back to Europe
KLM - fucking terrible, worst service, potentially worse than US airlines, old planes, business class is far behind all others - KLM air stewardesses are known as Dragons in Europe - all old, grumpy, slightly overweight.
Delta - so-so, service better than KLM, but not much else
American - always broken things on planes, or was that US airways - basically US carriers are a commodity nowadays so I can't remember, flown all of the majors in US
China Eastern - was fine, but seemed a bit unprofessional
Want to fly on: JAL, ANA, Korean, Singapore and on any airline in an A350 (when they're availablle)
Try Qatar A350/A380 or Etihad A380/787 next time. Heard they are much better than Emirates nowadays. But nothing can beat SQ Suites or Business class IMO

I have a trip booked that goes YYC to SFO to NRT to SIN.
Some things have changed and I will no longer be in YYC. Would I be able to call in and change specific segments? Like have them change YYC to SFO -> YVR to SFO?
Or, would I have to fly YVR to YYC then continue on like previous?

You can change it. Just call in. Needs to be availability on that segment though
