Was getting a tune at PIA, now its sitting at PIA because engine went pop.

edit: I'm only the second person to ever die on the dyno, PIA did an excellent job and I'll be going back once the engine is rebuilt, even drove me back to Seattle to catch a bus back home.

knight604 06-12-2014 11:57 AM

This sucks, no matter which way you slice it.

Having said that, I have a tough time understanding how they did an 'excellent' job, considering your motor is currently a giant paperweight.

GabAlmighty 06-12-2014 08:52 PM

Ya they obviously did a shite job if your motor blew up

dared3vil0 06-12-2014 09:04 PM

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't there a good chance that the tuner is at fault if the engine blew sky high on the dyno...?

I hate that champagne color but just got it detailed the other day

gilly 06-12-2014 09:50 PM

wouldn't they make you do a compression test before a dyno tune?

Suprarz666 06-12-2014 10:18 PM

Even with good compression, the chances of it blowing are still there.
He hasn't stated why it blew up so we shouldn't be pointing fingers at anyone.

It's really no one's fault but the cars.

I was pushing 389WHP/380TQ after already doing 33ish dyno pulls before my pistons croaked and seized, anything above 350WHP on a mustang dyno for stock internals is a gamble, I took that gamble and lost badly.

After I sleeve and forge the internals on the engine, I will be going back to get another tune, Mike is one of the best Subaru tuners in the entire industry, recommended by Dom from Maxwell Power too before he joined forces with Turn In Concepts.

So please don't point fingers at PIA, owner's been a Subaru master tech since the 1970's, and there's absolutely nothing but Subaru's there, only gripe that people have about it is its "too expensive"

edit: I took out 3 pistons l0l

Iron Chef 06-13-2014 05:45 AM

If anything over 350 is a gamble they should have advised you to stop there. If you wanted to keep going , it's no gamble since you already know it's the limit. Case of more dollars then sense.

It's either your fault or the tuners, if the known limit is roughly 350 you shouldn't have tried to push it further and if they're truly experts with Subaru's they shouldn't have tried pushing past 350. Don't blame the car for breaking when YOU did something stupid to it.

white rocket 06-13-2014 08:06 AM

Sorry to quote pics but I'd love some info on the side splitters and small front chin spoiler(under the oem lip). Also, didn't you have a small rear diffuser before that looked similar to a stock GD STI one?

caR looks awesome BTW

mistakes happen, this is apart of modifying your car its apart of our hobby. you obviously not worried about cost as PIA is money, but i have heard good things from that shop, as any shop will not be perfect. at least your are doing internals this time around.

Is this really necessary?

If my engine blew up I would be crying in my room for days, but he's taking it like a champ, and trying to make the best out of a shitty situation.

Who gives a shit who's fault it is, and I really don't think it's your job to point it out when the owner of the damn car says it's nobody's.

If someone you knew were injured while riding a bike without a helmet, would you visit them in the hospital and then say "yeah, but it's YOUR fault for being stupid".

Considering his bad history with his car (find thread on RS, it's an epic good read), and is now pouring his heart and soul (and all his money apparently lol), cut the guy some slack.
