Vancouver Tourism - Knowing where you live
So a lot of us travel out of town and learn the history of other cities we visit. We always forget that Vancouver has a very deep and interesting history of its own. From our ties with Guinness and Al Capone. To the construction of engineering marvels of the time such as the Lions Gate Bridge. There are a lot of interesting places and things we drive and walk pass everyday without looking twice.
I have always been interested in the history of Vancouver for a very long time, picking up little snippets of information here and there. I would always glance at old photographs of our neighbourhoods and compare them to how they look now. Trying to pick up little things and drive around to see if they are still there. What had really sparked my interest today was watching a documentary on the Knowledge Network about the construction of the Lions Gate Bridge.
After watching the documentary, I spent all day online just reading more information about the history of Vancouver. Interesting facts, folklore, myths, hauntings and interesting places. There is a lot of information to take in, and I want to learn more about Vancouver.
What I want to do first is take a tour of Stanley Park, maybe a more in depth tour of separate sections of the park as it contains a lot of history. There are places in Stanley Park that are chained off or gated, and have been for as long as I can remember. The trails and certain monuments within the trails of the park that I would normally overlook. I would love to learn more about them.
Has anyone ever been on a guided tour of Stanley Park? Any recommendations? Or maybe I can just start walking through it with my iPad and learn for myself as I go along. Anyone want to join in? Maybe we can get a small group together, I plan on taking out my camera as well. What do you think?
