AirBnB?

Anyone use airbnb much? Seems pretty sweet if everything goes as smoothly as reviews say etc

In the rick Steve's books, as well as from others I've known they were looking at $45+ per person for hostels in Western Europe, and his hotel recommendations start on the "cheap" side at 100 Euros a night

Me and my GF last night booked a place in Paris in the Latin quarter for 5 nights for $600

Then we booked an amazing apartment in Nice with a terrace facing the main square etc for $500 for 4 nights

The prices are stupid cheap compared to hotels etc and most of these places have 60+ positive reviews, seems pretty great

I didn't use airbnb, but did look on there. Eventually settled on vrbo, 15 nights at an apartment in Rome. Cheap enough that we even did an overnight trip to Venice while keeping a home base in Rome.

I think if I was staying in one place for a week or longer AND were travelling with my significant other then I would seriously consider AirBNB. My buddies and I stayed at an amazing place in Barcelona for a reasonable price.

On the other hand if it was just me or if I was just going for a few days, I'd be going to a hotel or hostel depending on my goals and price point - you meet a lot more people at a hostel and check in/check out is a lot smoother at a hotel for a short period of time.

I used AirBnB in NY in Chinatown area of manhatten. Cheap. I paid $45 per night. Hotels would of been way much more. Everything worked out well and my host was nice. She even had to leave for a day, so I had the whole place to myself. hahaha

I say go for it. Hope it all goes well with you and the host while you're there.

airbnb is awesome. used it over 6 or so times. it's always been smooth each time and has been much cheaper and more convenient than staying at a hostel/hotel.

I would def recommend Airbnb, used it in New York when I went with the GF. Saved us a decent amount compared to staying to a hotel in the same area.

Did airbnb in seattle over new years A+ experience.

Did airbnb over the summer for 1 night as a stopover point to whistler - sucked ass.

So far my Positives outweigh the negatives so AirBnB FTW!

The key to airbnb is a 5 star rating in the cleanliness category. DO NOT settle for 4 or 4.5 star in cleanliness. That has been my experience. There is a massive difference. 4 stars for cleanliness meant hair all over the place and bed sheets that probably haven't been laundered in months.

for that coupon why does the host have to "agree" on it? are they not getting reimbursed for the full price of their daily rate?

I use Airbnb just about every time I travel now and for vacations and not business I try and stay with a couple(the host) to gain the local perspective. It has always been fun and hell I've even gotten laid thanks to a great connection with a host...that's not technically paying for sex now is it?!

Just wanted to know, what are your thoughts on the Gov. issue "Verification ID"? and what option did you choose?

Plan to book soon, but need to provide airBnb an gov. issue ID. (which I'm having second thoughts)

I've booked 5 places and haven't needed to send in any govt ID as far as I know?

i believe that is a option some host will ask for.

Like Honda, I booked 3 places before, all they ask for is a photo of me.

If you want to host, you will need to have a govt ID attached to your profile.
