I agree that it would be distracting if you were to always try to look at that screen but usually you would just listen to the what the navigation is saying anyway (i.e. "in 100m turn right onto oak street").
I can see it being distracting at night when your entire dash is lit-up right in front of you which will probably be lighting up your face as you drive haha.
