How did you come up with that? It's a pretty good guess; the writer said this re: season 2 in an interview after the finale:
I didn't even see the post you made. I just figured New York will be a higher budget production cost, and with the fan and accolades they've been getting, they're bound to increase budget.
Secondly, the way they write, they can make any story and character amazing, regardless of gender or race.
The locations they filmed at really made this show great. Don't see something this great happening in the big apple.
Swamp and marshland helped make it seem like people just go missing and it's genuinely hard to find them.
I recall watching a behind the scenes clip on youtube and they talked about some people on staff grew up in the area and they would find such interesting places to film.
big part of what drew me in is definitely the Louisiana setting...gorgeous/eerie at the same time which was critical to set the tone
gonna have to rewatch the closing sequence...i fell asleep
What do you guys think is the symbolism of the galaxy hallucination Cohle had?
Spoiler!
My guess it that it represented a "black hole" which could suggest that the "end" is near. Cole was attacked right afterwards and was in the grips of death
I can't even get over how great everything in this show is. The actors, directing, writing, cinematography, and sets are all amazing.
What's with Childress and the English accent? Just a note to his insanity? Or something more?
Spoiler!
From reading recaps and articles, apparently it was to show how isolated he was, and all that he learned about life was from TV, magazines, books movies (all the stacks of them around his house).

I had an entire biography for Errol. For example, he taught himself to sound like other people by watching movies on his VCR. That’s why one minute he can sound like Andy Griffith inviting you to the fishing hole, and the next second he sound like James Mason, and then the next, he can sound like something otherworldly. So yeah: if we’re talking about the stories we tell ourselves, if identity is a story, this killer we get to know a little at the end, his identity seems completely fluid, depending on what story needs to be told, or, in the case of the North By Northwest scene, whatever story is in front of him.

I don't know where you got that from, but the writer of True Detective said that his accent was due to him teaching himself how to speak again after his dad burnt his face. He learned how to speak again from watching those old TV shows.

There was this idea that when he talks in his real voice, it’s very slurred because of the scarring. My background for him was that he learned how to enunciate properly through watching all these old VCR movies.

Jake Gyllenhaal in Prisoners really impressed me....... I wouldn't mind seeing him take the roll and shadow the character he played in Prisoners. A very cocky young kid who thinks he's got things figured out. In most scenes where he's trying to calm down victims families he's almost pissed off that they are mad and holding back his frustration.

Only just got into this show and I love it. I've seen the most recent episodes as that's all I was able to catch on HBO so I need to go back and start at the beginning. Anyway, Vice just put out a nice episode on the back story the show is based on:
