man who the fuck is running Toyota? why would they put a bmw engine in the new supra? and why are they going with an auto? also going to guess price range of this car is going to be stupid compared to how much hp it actually has.

It's hilarious that Toyota wants us to not call them boring.

They are actually so boring that, when they try to make an exciting car, they forgot how to make one and messed it up.

Nabatron 03-07-2018 09:58 AM

^haha so true. The only vehicles they have going for them I guess are the tundra and Tacoma. Cant stand any of their boring bullshit cars...

Z3guy 03-07-2018 10:14 AM

And it's still the dictionary definition of beige-mobile.

I'd take the Accord/6 any day over a Camry.

I maintain that the 300 BHP V6 is a waste in a Camry. That should be in the new Supra. Yeah, it's not an I6, but it's a powerful and reliable Toyota engine, not a BMW engine with stupid shit like no dipstick.

Now let's see how long Mazda will take to make a new rotary sports car...

But Honda came out with a low slung Accord that resembles an Audi A7, which has the potential to be chipped and making that mad torque :fullofwin:

Rumors rumors rumors. Oh how imaginative.

TouringTeg 03-07-2018 02:37 PM

I sold my MKIV too soon. The auto is not very engaging but otherwise a great all around car.

Even the MKIV TT auto prices are going crazy. A Toyota 6spd getrag will run about 15k since they are discontined.

Honda offers a 6-speed manual option for both engine options for the Accord(an FWD family car), and yet Toyota doesn't for a proper sports car.

Honda > Toyota

That's a range extender... Doesn't count.

We are talking about having the rotary engine power the wheels.

twitchyzero 03-07-2018 08:05 PM

yep at least Honda kept the 3rd pedal on the new Type R

if it wasn't for Subaru, basically Toyota would have no manual transmission in their current North American sporty/sports cars afaik

wtf?

Jmac 07-07-2018 08:41 PM

Toyota continues a solid 15+ years of disappointment.

Wow full on disappointed!

how's the production model still not revealed yet
by the time it drops like the 86, it will only feel fresh for a year or two and gonna feel dated and stale not far into the generation and even a refresh won't help (unless they bump up the power by a reasonable margin)

Porsche Cayman rival, huh? With it looking like that, I'd hardly think it could win over any Porsche fans.

It seems to me like Toyota is rehasing exactly what it has done with the FT86 -- build up a gob ton of hype, with minute changes and new leaks every time something minor comes up. And then happens throughout the development cycle.

For me, I don't like that way of doing things. I just got sick and tired of all the little updates. And like you said, by the time the car comes out, it already feels dated because you've been staring at the shape for the past 4 - 5 years.

ppck 09-19-2018 01:08 PM

if it came with stick, it wouldve been an instant hit for enthusiasts...but there aren't enough of us speaking with our wallets

Traum 09-19-2018 02:48 PM

The Supra is supposed to come with a stick. It is only the Z4 that is strictly automatic.

But who knows what kind of manual transmission will come with the car? A crappy tranny can totally ruin the driving experience.

Dbone 09-19-2018 08:03 PM

Maybe there will be an edition with the engine from the Z4M (assuming there will be a new one)?

The thing that puts me off is the idea of having the speakers making the engine noise. That just ruins it for me.

My MKIV was stock, and people told me it was too quiet, but the engine noise (as opposed to the exhaust noise) sounded awesome inside the car when you were really on it.

bomberR17 09-19-2018 08:15 PM

If it came with the Z4 First Edition's engine that produces 382hp, people will probably accept its power more.

toyota86 09-19-2018 09:14 PM

This car really isn't a supra. It has a BMW drivetrain, BMW electrics, BMW chassis, BMW suspension, BMW unreliability, and built by Magna Steyr. If anything, it should be called The new BMW Z4 Coupe styled by Toyota. I have zero interest in the car now that they have confirmed no manual. However, I am very interested how fast it falls apart 2-3 years in, right at the tail end of warranty.
