i love this thing - BMW isn't going to give me another M coupe, so this will do fine.

give me the third pedal and I'm in

What is maintenance going to be like on a ToyoMW? Or is it a BMyota? A Zupra?
:fulloffuck:

And what about reliability? Toyota has had great relibility numbers for decades, while BMW has been known more for their ability to bankrupt used car owners.

Gotta love David Tracy from Jalopnik, guy goes into detail finding crap like this for nerds like us. He digs into the new Supra to find everything that's similar to BMW.

Anyone thought the Lexus RC350 might overlap with this new Toyota Supra?

Similar Price Range, Automatic only, both are based on/is a luxury coupe. And the rear seats of the RC is small.

!Aznboi128 01-17-2019 04:50 AM

RC350 is more luxury than sport so I would think it's in a different market.

!LittleDragon 01-17-2019 11:09 AM

The rear looks like The Ultimate Warrior

And the wing looks like an upside down visor

Id much rather have the Lexus lc500. Side by side the Lexus IS sooooo much more beautiful. Yes I know it’s a GT car more than a sports car

Supra was never really a sports car. They where big GT cruisers. The MKIV was based off the Lexus SC. MR2 was the sports car

twitchyzero 01-18-2019 08:13 PM

as i was saying, strip away the luxury bits of the LC500 and it'll be more of a sports car than the new Supra

weighs like a truck but has almost 50/50 wd

tofu1413 01-18-2019 09:01 PM

if they used the LC platform...... and made it a two seater with the FT1 proportions.... with a twin turbo V6... I think there would probably be less online outrage :lawl:

welfare 01-18-2019 11:03 PM

Maybe I'm just not a fan of how most newer vehicles look, but that thing is butt ass ugly.

If the supra look like this i will consider leasing it with the bmw engine

tofu1413 01-19-2019 12:25 PM

^ lol Don't want to spill the beans, but the Z4 will be a better deal to lease.

- better residual value set by BMW finance
- free maintenance!
- most likely lower interest rates

They will make an F varient. That should cure all the performance ailments.

Probably will look better in person

dark0821 01-19-2019 03:52 PM

Wait... is LC even in the same ballpark? I mean... a LC owner can definitely afford a Supra... but a Supra owner wouldn't necessary be able to afford a LC.

I must be getting soft. I get it, LC isn't fast (or could be a lot faster for the amount of money it commands). But I love it, every time I see one, I just want to own it. And knowing that it will be more "reliable" means I will be looking at the used market when the first wave of lease vehicles comes up for sale hahaha....

Sorry for the double post, but I just have to comment after reading thru the Jalopnik article.

I just feel Toyota is just lazy to no end. Really, too lazy to even swap the stickers and part numbers so it says Toyota? I guess its just "wasted resources" to build you own "parts library" for the car knowing that it is coming off the same assembly line as the Z4 in Austria.

I know this is nip picking, but that airbox shape irrates me to no end. Because Toyota's version doesnt have diagonal struts like the BMW. WTF is that indentation in the air box then. Holy fuck (excuse my language), you can't even bother to use a different filter with a different air box? You are only the biggest auto manufacture in the world (or VW), you can't even source your own air box? None of the existing airboxes under your product library will fit the new Supra or smth....

lololol... ///end rant

and yes, I am not in the market for one, I can't afford it, so keyboard warrior full force hahaha

eclipseman 01-19-2019 06:16 PM

First 2020 Supra ever made and sold at BJ auctions:

i don't see the big deal

does the Toyota 86 go out of its way to hide Subaru branding on its parts?

i know Fiat 124, aside from motor and some body parts, everything is Mazda and the only thing they conceal is the auto glass marked as a FCA part

seems counter-intuitive financially to send Toyota parts all the way to Austria, i'd hazard a guess most new Supra buyers are enthusiasts and fully know they're getting a fixed roof Z4 with re-tuned suspension/steering

Tbh, I don't think any automakers have ever done this. Looking under the hood of some Mazdas and you'll see FoMoCo stickers and part numbers. Under a lot of Saabs you'll see GM and under one you'll see Subaru. To put on their own sticker and identify their own part number is just another step in the process that's not necessary. If and when parts are needed it'll be easier to get just the original part rather than cross-reference multiple companies.
