Recommend me a Sandblasting shop looking for shop to sandblast a set of chrome rims i bought a while ago before I get them painted. Basically need to strip the chrome off....sanding takes too much time to do it. Preferably in Richmond Thanks |
Airstrip Posted via RS Mobile edit: this is in Richmond  just had my calipers sandblasted...they do a good job for a decent price |
Sureblast in coquitlam |
I suggest you do some research on sandblasting chrome and painting over chrome before you invest time and money into those rims. |
^ That. I don't think it will work properly. |
From my understanding, the chrome that's still bonded may not be able to be blasted off completely. So you can sandblast and re-chrome or powdercoat but paint won't adhere well to chrome. |
i thought the only way to remove chrome was to do some sort of chemical dip? not many places do that anymore because of environmental restrictions, and can be really expensive. |
Airstrip should be able to advise you. I've used them plenty of times over the last decade. |
+1 for airstrip. gave me a pretty good deal for blasting 3 boxes of suspension parts. also does good work  |
The only thing you can do with chrome is strip the top layers and etch the coating so you can lay paint or powder on the wheel. With out a proper chemical dip you will never take it all off. I had the same issue with my Kranze's [When I first got them] https://scontent-a-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/...17216344_n.jpg [Sandblasted. I used Sureblast, great people] https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...36177685_n.jpg [Powder coated, again I used Sureblast] https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...62752415_n.jpg You can see in the photo the sandblasting can only do so much, and if the chrome is pealing then you run the risk of damaging the soft oxidized aluminum underneath which is what happened to me. All in all, not to bad but I do wish I would have properly chemical stripped them. |
