Ruckus's are fun, but they are slow especially on hills. It takes a bit of modding and tuning to get up to speed, but it can be done. My ruckus right now tops out at about 80km/h w/ stock motor, I should get more speed once I get my Air/fuel guage hooked up so I can tune on the spot. The drastic change in temps in Vancouver really change the performance of the scooter. The Ruckus is really fun to tinker and you cant stop adding parts. Plus when you ride in a group of 10+ scooters, its like a mini parade. Everyone takes pics and waves at you.. Its good times. IF you want something with more pep, then go with a Yamaha BWS or Honda DIO, they are both 2 stroke scooters and have much better pull. Riding a scooter is like riding a fat chick, its only fun until your friends catch you. If you are really serious in buying a Ruck, go with something that has a few mods(Variatorw/sliders, exhaust, up-jet). Or if you do end up with a stock one, make sure it's cheap!! Bc had a weird idea that a stock ruck with 15,000km is worth only $500 less than a brand new one. So make sure to shop around, and budget in immediate upgrades necessary, like dragon said. Variatior with weights, a good exhaust w/ a carb jet kit. And if it's stock brakes i seriously suggest at least a password jdm front end kit. Oh and a lowered seat frame is big for comfort. I had a mnnthbx seat frame and it was amazing. Friend had a bws 2-stroke with a 80cc motor (high rpm racing crank, full top end, ignition), exhaust, 28mm pwk carb, full new cvt set up, everything. Drove beside him and it would top out at 117km/h, geared it down to max out around 80km/h. (probably 99th+ percentile speed wise for anything that starts out as a 50cc) I rode it a bunch and it was fun in a straight line from a standstill (hard to keep the front down), but I got bored of it fairly quickly. If I didn't have a class 6 and a couple motorcycles then maybe I'd have had more fun, but as it was it was interesting but not something I'd want to own or ride regularly. For the amount that cost I'd just buy a smaller motorcycle over a scooter. For what he paid for the scooter + parts he could have easily just bought a newer 250 in good shape. |
seems like a lot of Ruckus owners swap their engine. The most popular one seems to be GY6 150cc swap . |
i was looking at the ruckus on cragslist few months ago modded ones were $6k..you can buy 2 Groms with that money :fuckthatshit: and i wouldn't be able to cross the 2nd narrows and up the hill :okay: does anyone take their 150cc on highway 1? Can you get a ticket holding a Class 5 but your scooter is technically >50cc? |

I don't think he test drove it first. Dealers require you to have a full Class 6 before allowing you to test ride their bikes. I think he just had his partial license after completion of the MST. The thing is more of a road legal pit bike, it only has 4 gears. It's something you'll outgrow in a matter of months and inevitably long for something more. |
I wouldn't mind seeing a review of the grom vs cbr125 lol. I think if you have a big bike already, a grom would be fantastic fun if you plan to nip out across down. But 3g's is alot for a once and a while ride Posted via RS Mobile |

I was actually surprised the amount of aftermarket support already available for the Grom. Not my cup of tea but parts are going to be of abundance. Driven Racing and Yoshimura USA already have a full line of products out for it. |

^ Because Italians have managed to convince the rest of the world that anything they make should be more expensive. Just look at their banking system. In reference to your earlier post: skinnier tires on smaller displacement bikes make more sense due to the their power, acceleration and fuel economy capabilities, whether you think they look stupid or not. I learned to ride on a CBR125R and would recommend the same to anybody. PS - Don't worry about going off topic. It's your thing and it seems everyone's used to it. |
I've had many different sportbikes, etc... but I think you guys are missing the point a bit... I also had a Yamaha BWS for awhile and for me it wasn't about trying to get around Vancouver... it was about riding something that you just had to sit on like a chair and zip about without a clutch or gear changes... didn't have to wrap your legs around it like a bike. It felt like a toy to me and it was a blast. Who cares what other people think? I would quite often go down to the garage and pick the scooter instead of the CBR just because it felt more fun.............. you get on a CBR or anything like that and it just feels so much more serious but if you get on the scooter you can chill and be stupid like spin around in parking lots trying to see how fast and low you can corner but never going fast enough to kill yourself when it goes wrong... lol |
