Who loves their car right now?

One thing I'll always remember dearly about car ownership is the love-hate relationship that can develop between you and a car.

I won't say which car of mine, and I dislike talking about it, but there was a car I owned that totally left the WORST stain on my life for years. Something happened to it at one point, it never ran the same, and it haunted me for years. My passion for cars evaporated and my heart ached because of the stress and disappointment for a looooong ass time. :(

Those days are over!

After driving the 5.0 powered E36 yesterday, I noticed the size of the shit-eating grin I had allllllll evening. The V8 torque around town is so nice to have, the sound of that Ford firing order serenades my ears with a symphony of King George highway. Without the live axle rear end, the BMW drives without the paint-can effect that so many of our uneven Vancouver streets will treat you to in a Mustang. The compact size of the E36, its incredible 360 degree visibility, the tight turning radius, seating position and brake feel all make it a joy to drive.

Sure, it has a cracked windshield, the driver's window is fucked and won't go down, the seat is torn, I dropped fries under my seat already, the headliner is completely missing, it stalls sometimes rolling to a stoplight, the suspension is shot, and I think the tensioner arm is worn out, but damnit, I love this fucking car!!!

Anyone else feeling particularly in love with their ride right now? :woot2:

every time i bored of my car i throw a bunch of money at it and i love it again!

4th set of wheels, 2nd engine, 4th transmission.. a turbo and various other parts!

i did get pretty bored of it until yesterday, finished the last transmission swap "car has been parked for the last 2 weeks and ive been driving around my gf's crx and wow did i miss my hatch. that being said i just ordered ALOT of stuff for it and shes getting a make over in the coming weeks and im very excited!

next 3-4 days are dedicated to maintenance and cleaning the car up for some upcoming changed and a small boost in power ;)

It seems with every car i own i always get buyers remorse, (in recent memory) 2000 Nissan Maxima SE (4AT) had a transmission problem where it would rev but you wouldn't move (in drive) almost as if the clutch was slipping (except obviously no clutch) that i chased the problem for 6 months before i sold it.

Then my '07 Civic Si (6MT) i bought to replace it was a relatively fun car, but i had terrible problems with the shifting of that car... I would get locked completely out of gears for no apparent reason, it would grind going into first, second and occasionally third, and the worst part is it would pop out of gears. Imagine being wide open and having it pop out of 4th into neutral at 7800rpms? I don't even want to know how high it made it rev...

The Mustang on the other hand, i don't feel any buyers remorse regarding. I don't know why, i just love everything about it. 305hp, RWD, 30mpg highway cruising, (although i'm only getting 19mpg combined atm...) subjectively (i love it) great styling, and who doesn't love OEM HID's in a proper projector, and sequential tail lights? I think this will be a very long term ownership... Slowly build my idea of the perfect Mustang, one part at a time. I'm excited!

I love my car. I wanted it since I got my first ride in one at age 16. Everything about the car has shaped my life to date.

I started playing the Autodesk Maya and 3D because making a CG car was about the closest I could get to it while attending University. I was so driven (no pun intended) by my desire to make the CG look real that I got better over time and it eventually became my career. The very career that allowed me to buy the car. I suppose it's the same thing for people who love cars and find a career in photography, journalism or video production out of it.

I got into ecu tuning also because I loved the car so much. I wanted to be able to tune my car when the day of ownership finally came. If you can't own your "dream" car the next best thing is sharing the experience in the passenger seat logging a car at full blast. Tuning friends and customer cars allowed for a some what vicarious outlet until I could have one.

At the moment though it is a bit of a love/hate relationship. Car parts are fucking expensive. My philosophy is do your research, buy quality parts, do it once and do it right. Quite often high quality = high price. And every time I upgrade one thing another problem/liability pops up. I keep saying to myself "Last mod! No more after this - I swear." Lower the car but then need to adjust the roll center, you make more power - the clutch starts to slip, you turn up the boost but misfire because the coil pack can't handle it....it's just one thing after the next. But I always say it's about the journey, not the destination man....the sweet simply isn't as sweet without the sour. When the car runs well, she's a mean bitch and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My transmission isn't smooth... the synchros are rough... there are random creeks and rattles on occasion from the sunglass compartment and the dash... the dual mass flywheel makes a clunking noise when I press the clutch pedal at low speeds....

but some times.... when everything is working right... Shifts are smooth. Car sounds great. Music is turned off and I can hear exhaust noise bounce off buildings. That's when I remember why I love my car.

Noran 02-26-2014 12:23 PM

Well I haven't driven it in a while but I assume that when I do drive it I'll love it... especially after driving a car with 60hp for a while lol

Every time I drive my Corolla its not the fastest/best car in the world, but then I see all those people waiting at bus stops in the rain, makes me appreciate the fact I even have a car. Then I bought a couple toys and well I love all my cars.

pb.kidz 02-26-2014 12:55 PM

I've always wanted a 335i and now I drive one

Tone Loc 02-26-2014 01:07 PM

Feel the same way about my AE86. No power steering, the defroster doesn't work, she doesn't start sometimes, the fenderwells are showing signs of rust, the synchros are out of wack, and not to mention I'm just learning how to drive stick on a lightweight flywheel and racing clutch (installed by the previous owner). Nothing like stalling on a hill while some juicer in a lifted truck that can easily crawl over your car is honking and swearing at you while to try to get the damn thing running again...

But when it goes great, it's real great. Nothing like cruising Barnet hwy at 12am, radio off, windows down, and just chilling. No real need to drive fast, no other cars. Just you and the road and that stupid smile you can't wipe off your face

hate my car, love my bike :p

I loved all my cars 91 integra, then a 2007 dodge charger slammed to the ground on viper wheels then a 2004 civic... But my recent ride I'm absolutely in love with 2010 f350 hardly Davidson.

I've loved my car since I bought it in 2003. Loved them since 1996. Still love it today. Not a daily mind you and it's pretty much a track car/weekend cruiser. But I'm still in love and currently looking for another to add to the stable. The car far exceeded my expectation after lusting after one for 7 years and finally getting one. Can't say there are many cars like that in existence for me.

The STi, it's OK I guess. My close friend bought one and it instigated the purchase of mine a few weeks after. It's cool to have a buddy with one so we can share in the culture. Considering how much hype I put into them when they first came out I can't say that it lived up to the hype. His love for the GD platform inspires me though. LOL!

my engine mounts are shaky and i want to go lower but ill rub.
high Km's.
parts aren't easily obtained and its expensive to fill up.
but i love this car, and am going to hang onto it as long as i can!

I don't love my 335i like I loved my S2000 but its a good car. Excellent in many areas.

hop into many friends' newer cars and i start to really hate the ugly basic 90's interior in my s2000 and the inconvenience. But warm weather comes, put the top down and rip to vtec and i start loving my car more than anything again

BrRsn 02-26-2014 04:13 PM

considering I understeered it into a curb and broke a tie rod and bent a rim .. not really.
When it's running right and not damaged .. I do.

Grass is always greener on the other side, newer cars always come out with features -- but what's yours is yours and you learn to love it I guess

My favorite car of all time was my 00 S2000 with 11 psi of Vortech boost!!!

westopher 02-26-2014 04:22 PM

I absolutely love my car. I've got a front end clunk thats bugging me a bit at low speed turns, but think it may be as simple as a loose swaybar end link. Now that spring is here I'll sort it out. I couldn't honestly be happier with a car than I am with mine. Constantly looking for reasons to drive it, clean it, and make it more reliable and fun.
