Lightweight wheels (perhaps Enkei RPF-1's) and some sticky summer tires, perhaps coilovers and i wouldn't bother with much more unless you plan on keeping it for a while.

Accords can be made to look really good, but if you're planning on autocross, track, etc. type of stuff you're SOL.
They're pretty heavy and since it was your mom's car I'm going to assume it is automatic as well. If I were you, I'd sell the Accord and buy a smaller, lighter, and more nimble car instead and use the money left over on a bucket seat, smaller-diameter steering wheel, harness, coilovers, brakes, and wheels/tires.
If your mom won't let you sell it (my mom def would not let me sell the Civic she gave me), save some $$ and buy your own car. $4000 later and I have an AE86 which is a far superior track car and fun daily.

What car would you get instead? | I think either you or your friend confused rally-x with auto-x. Look into VCMC and UBC SCC through Google and this site's search engine to learn the details. A stock or modified Accord is capable of taking part in it, and it will make you a better driver on the street. It's nice to have a 'sports car' but it's not necessary for your car to be one to participate in being an enthusiast.
A tool kit from Canadian Tire is good starting point. Because they appear to be your area of interest, research suspension and brake modifications and remember to do things the right away the first time.
Welcome to Revscene and congrats on your first car.

How many KMs on your Accord?
Maybe here are some of the things that I would recommend:
- Drain and refill auto trans fluid every 10,000km
- Swap to TL rear swaybar
- Get stickier tires (Summer tires)
- Lower it with a good shocks and springs
Last but not least, visit "v6performance" and "driveaccord" forums.. Quote:

What are good mods to start with? (it's totally stock except performance tires)
I have a 300 piece socket set from Canadian tire so I can most likely do stuff at home. My friends told me there's rally-x in pit meadows.
Is the V6 Accord too front heavy for it? I'd first get some lowering springs obviously.
So nice to have a car that is in my name finally after all these years | |

congrats - i remember when i got my mom's civic.. one of the best feelings that you only get once. the independence
anyway lowering springs would be my advice.
it's honestly kind of fun, just go online and find a guide to do it then get a couple of friends
when i did it it took me more than double the shop time haha
just getting down and dirty and understanding how your car actually works is really informational and enlightening.

Before you start putting money towards the car, a much better idea is to invest the money on yourself as a driver, and explore the direction you want to take your car modding to.
Now that spring is here, VCMC will be holding their Velocity driving school in late April (Sat the 26th). By spending the money on yourself to improve as a driver, you'll have a better idea of where your car's weakness lies, and that in turn will give you a better sense in where to start should you really choose to mod your car. After trying some performance driving out (in the form of autox), you might even find that you are not really that interested in performance driving per se, and might choose to mod for aesthetics instead. All of that is ok. The important thing is, you don't want to just start modding the car for the sake of modding the car. Find out the direction you want to head towards, and then you start approaching that goal.
Speaking from experience, I would say that your V6 Accord coupe is not particularly well suited to performance driving. That doesn't mean you won't have fun driving it in a performance-oriented setting; it just means it is not the best tool for the job.

Best advice I can ever give anyone. Don't mod your car for the sake of modding it. Only replace a part with something as good or better than OEM. Shitty raceland coils will ride badly. Shitty sportmaxx wheels with the wrong offset will not fit, and will bend. A poorly designed intake will just suck in hot air and make your car slower. Buy it nice, or buy it twice. Maintain it before/as you mod it.
