I agree with harvey...walking dead wasn't bad either and Suits just got super boring after the second season...Family guy use to be funny but now its just forced and weird.

If it wasn't for GolTV and Beinsports i would most likely cancel my cable but i need my futbol fix.

Wat.

Did you just put pimp my ride in the same sentence as fresh prince?

donjalapeno 03-25-2015 09:30 PM

yup.....aside from the lack of taste when customizing the cars, i actually found the show to be quite entertaining.

Tone Loc 03-25-2015 10:26 PM

Can't say I didn't see it coming. Sorry to bust up all the Clarkson cockriders in this thread, but put yourself in the producer's shoes... how would you feel if your boss was a complete asshole who physically assaulted you, and he was caught but allowed to keep his job?

Clarkson is a hugely funny guy with a lot of talent, and Top Gear is one of the literally 3 TV shows that I actually still follow... but I don't support anybody with this generation-me "Kanye West" mentality of acting like a gigantic douche and relying on your perceptions of talent to keep you out of trouble.

That being said, I would watch TG if it aired on another network... but you can't say Clarkson didn't deserve 100% of what he got.

I am not trying to defend jezza or anything. I just feel dissapointed and I guess a bit upset of how the current top gear eneded this way. I agree with the majority that Clarkson kinda shot himself in the foot and didnt really leave much choice forth BBC.

What caught me off guard was James May's reaction post the decision, and I quote "it is unfortunate that something small has gotten so big or smth like that. Now just pure on Internet hearsay, it seems that Jezza had a pretty rough day to start, when they finally arrived at the hotel, there was only cold food. Maybe it was just a coincidence of incidents string together that kinda set off the bomb. And Clarkson reported himself after……… I don't know, we all have bad days at work ..... Ahh f*** lol I don't know where I am going with this…… I guess somehow I kinda hoped for the impossible (BBC solve this behind closed doors, Jezza apologies and we move on), lol end rant ……… sigh

James May said today that is he is set to 'go back to normal life' as he and Richard Hammond prepare to desert Top Gear over the unceremonious sacking of Jeremy Clarkson.
The presenter admitted he was already considering what to do next with his life - and suggested he might even ditch cars to become a teacher.
Speaking outside his home today, Mr May said: 'I might want to do something completely different with my life, I'm quite old now. (I might do) something outside of cars, I always wanted to be a teacher.'
Although Mr May said he had not spoken yet with Clarkson about yesterday's announcement, he seemed to confirm speculation that he would leave the top-rating programme.

What Jeremy did is out of our control but no one can deny the success of the show. Even if they tried replacing the presenters with someone else I wouldn't watch it. For me Richard, May and Jeremy made the show what it is.

BBC did what they needed to do but they sacrificed a lot hoping the other two would stay. There is no Top Gear without Jeremy, Richard and May.

Hopefully JC heads over to Netflix because they have the budget to produce a show like TG and JC won't be censored because revenue isn't generated from advertising.

Meh, for all we know maybe he wanted it done and over with using the producer as an easy way out. How many of you guys have been in relationships were you wished you could just get out easy without making it dramatic - I know I have.

twitchyzero 03-26-2015 11:42 PM

his contract was up this year, he's not held at gunpoint to do top gear for life. To suggest he assault someone just to get out of a job is ludicrous...how's punching someone less dramatic than saying "i'm done"?

Audience wanting closure and continuously having expectations for him to stay/comeback vs a simple "fuck this im out. I want nothing to do with this ever again". I'm not saying that's what he did but it is a possible scenario.

twitchyzero 03-27-2015 10:33 AM

i would guess many TG fans will follow JC should he start his own show
what's already gone down is possibly the worst closure TG can get

anyone know how much May and Hammond were making on the show? I'm surprised May said he's going to sell his F430 in the recent interview (half joking?)

capt_slo 03-27-2015 10:46 AM

Hammond & May reportedly each made 500k per series.

That's it? Seems way to low to me.

yeah i thought that was low too but looked into it and they're not that wealthy nor do they earn anything remotely comparable to american tv personalities

Clarkson got paid £600,000 last year
JC's net worth is reported to be £30 million and that's including the £13million payout for his share of the show

Hammond £15 million

May £10 million

To be fair each series is typically 7 or so episodes though.

But it's the most watched show in the world. Ashton Kutcher was being paid 700k per episode for 2 and a half men.

I wonder what they're gonna do with all the bits they've filmed for the now cancelled episodes. I thought this season was really good, especially compared to the number of seasons. It seemed a little more genuine, a little more like the early "new" Top Gear seasons. I know the news isn't gonna be done because they do that the week before the episode airs, but the tests and challenges are all pre-recorded weeks or months in advance. Hopefully those will be released at some point, I was kinda looking forward to all the stuff that was supposedly going to happen (convertible challenge, TheFerrari/P1/918 race etc).

underscore 03-27-2015 04:55 PM

^ I think they said they'll try to release them in 2016. With no Clarkson, Hammond or May to do the studio portions I'm not sure how they plan to pull that off considering how they cut back and forth during challenges and such. I'm also not sure when they record any of the voice work that's dubbed over the pre-recorded video and audio.

@Manic: Fair point, but it's a lot harder to pull in cash with no ads. And I have a feeling people would be getting cranky if the BBC was paying someone piles of money as it is government run after all.

Boostslut 03-27-2015 09:18 PM

If Top Gear does come back i'd be curious to see how they handle this situation, if they just brush it under the rug and continue like nothing happened, or if they talk about it off the hop and make some sense, and resolve the problem over the air..

Ronin 03-27-2015 09:30 PM

Probably the same way they deal with every problem in the past: awkward moment and then "...right, moving on..."

It's the BBC, they'll brush it under the rug.
