If you watched Top Gear for a long time you'll notice the recent seasons (Clarkson era, not the other douche) had the same issue. Far more scripted - or their age/editing has made their delivery seem like it is more scripted (the pauses after jokes, the purpose set up for comments, scripted insults and reactions as opposed etc...). The earlier seasons were likely still heavily scripted, but felt more natural in delivery like a reality show as opposed to a scripted comedy/drama.

Still love it, very few shows can still continue after so many years. I'll take the more scripted approach to none at all, I was ear to ear smiling when they pulled in up 3 Mustangs for their TV reunion, they're back.

Just watched episode 2. I can't put my finger on it but it seems like the production quality of GT is a bit lower than TG. Like, the video editing in TG with the music selection they use and stuff like that is still better.

And Chris Harris' review of the Vulcan absolutely destroy's Jeremy's review. With CH's I could almost feel like I was there in the car with him and my hair was standing up on end with the sound of that engine.

And the new test track seems kind of small & boring.

bcuzracecarz 12-01-2016 08:59 PM

I don't think we've seen enough of the new track to fully comment yet but the new driver is ruining everything about it for me. Borderline just mute it when he's on

One thing I read about the perks of working with the BBC was their access to music licenses, vs the lack thereof with Amazon, hence the vaguely 'sound-alike' soundtracks.

They used some good stuff with the BBC, but they reused a lot between episodes as well. Not so noticeable if you only watch the episodes once, but having rewatched most of the episodes as much as I have you start noticing a lot of songs coming up in multiple episodes.

just watched ep3

A LOT BETTER

Mancini 12-02-2016 02:02 PM

I have get to watch GT and can't wait.

TG has really upped their program by losing one Chris and promoting the other. I think this is going to be a tighter race than originally anticipated.

I agree but I still cant help but feel that its more humour orientated than actual car reviews, but I guess its necessary given the market?

You have to kind of take into account that they cannot do exactly the same thing as Top Gear.

Amazon is tiptoeing across a very fine line right now. Considering its one giant (Amazon) potentially pissing off another giant (BBC), surely they are being very careful in their moves right now.

At least the three aren't doing some cooking show (although I'd watch that as well - may be quite funny lol)

DragonChi 12-02-2016 09:19 PM

Spoiler!

donjalapeno 12-02-2016 09:45 PM

finally a good episode!. I thought it was hilarious.

bcuzracecarz 12-03-2016 06:53 PM

I find it very repetitive, harping on the same jokes over and over throughout the episode until the horse is fully dead and beaten. Still enjoying it however, Jeremy's reviews are always the best, can tell when they are actually talking about cars it's genuine enthusiasm vs. what seems to be very forced comedy

Enjoyed the episode, figuring it out a little more each week, but my god please please please, get rid of the American test driver. He's appalling and makes me cringe, not laugh... Celebrity brain crash has got to be revamped too

!e.lo_ 12-10-2016 10:49 AM

If I'm not mistaken, Season 1 has already been filmed. So any changes to the format would be seen in Season 2.

Celebrity Braincrash is stupid. The test drive, Mike Skinner, is boring. Where's Ben Collins?
Or get one of the old BTCC drivers

DragonChi 12-10-2016 10:50 AM

Yeah the American Stig is awful!

Lomac 12-10-2016 11:01 AM

I'm still on the fence about GT. While it's nice to see the old trio back, it seems to still be pulling in some of the bad habits of Top Gear. It's great there's no SIARPC, but its mocking replacement is just as annoying and bad. The worst part is how scripted the challenges/trips have been so far. Top Gear was at it's best in the older seasons when a cheap car challenge results in a car genuinely looking like a clunker. I'm sure many of these bits were scripted in, or at least nudged along, but it still felt like it flowed together without feeling jarring. So far, everything just feels forced and absolutely scripted.

If American not-Stig didn't talk, I wouldn't have an issue. He's genuinely an impressive race car driver IRL, but the stereotype is fucking annoying.

Actually, the wort part is how close to Top Gear they're trying to make it without actually calling it that. Change it up. Do what Top Gear USA shifted into and have only episode long challenges or races or something. (Side note, TG USA actually became quite watchable when they switched over to that format.)

underscore 12-11-2016 12:10 AM

^ thanks for the heads up, I might take another look at TGUSA again.

I'm hoping for season 2, after so many "celebrity deaths" they will say how useless it is to have celebrities come drive a car/how useless it is to kill them all on TGT, and get rid of it all together.

That and remove the American test drivers tongue. As much as I want to hear the car being pushed I just mute it because he is unbearable. It is awful.

Nlkko 12-17-2016 09:19 AM

The alfa romeo clip was an art. Beautiful.

bcuzracecarz 12-17-2016 11:01 AM

Ugh, I feel like I'm sitting in the waiting room for my favourite show to come out of surgery, and then the doctor walks out shaking his head

Teriyaki 12-17-2016 01:34 PM

Very disappointing so far. Skipped episode 2 due to overwhelming negative review and up to ep 4 now...

Everything IMO is too scripted. The old stuff was likely scripted too, but atleast it didn't seem like it. This one is too in your face and obvious. Kind of loses its magic.

thumper 12-20-2016 07:19 AM

next episode is focus rs vs. mustang gt:

Mancini 12-20-2016 09:17 AM

I think TG with the revised format is going to pick up some momentum now.

With Top Gear having fallen from grace for many, the local council that oversees Dunsfold Aerodrome has given the green light to a scheme that will wipe its primary filming location from the face of the earth

It Looks Like The Top Gear Test Track Is Going To Be Destroyed - News
As if the campaign denouncing new new Top Gear needed any more to moan about, it looks like the world-famous airfield that served as the Top Gear Test Track is about to be scrubbed off the face of the earth.

With the show in a certain amount of turmoil after Chris Evans’ failed experiment at the helm for the last series, Waverley Borough Council has voted to allow developers to bulldoze Dunsfold Aerodrome to make way for 1800 new houses and flats, plus an expanded business park.

Waverley Borough Council first took the application in December 2015, suggesting that developers saw an opportunity to make some money after Jeremy Clarkson punched a Top Gear producer and was ultimately forced out of the BBC, taking Ricard Hammond and James May with him.

Included in that is a small retail area with a pub or restaurant, perfect for drowning your sorrows over the TV history the car world will have lost.

There are reportedly over 100 businesses already on site. The application involves demolishing over 8000 square metres of existing properties, retaining another 36,700 and building around 51,000 more.

Plans include a primary school, research and development businesses, storage warehouses, a care home and large ponds with some kind of recreational facilities. The three runways would be removed completely.

There’s little more information than that available at present, but it looks like a fairly big nail in the coffin of one of the car world’s prized ‘possessions’.

Earlier this year the company that ran the Top Gear Track Experience collapsed due to free-falling customer numbers.
