Great start to what looks to be an epic season 2.

TGT is too self-aware. They're trying to be a parody of themselves.

Looking forward to TG. I'm more interested in that show now.

I think Clarkson, Hammond and May are just being themselves. No question, they're aware of their "characters" and aren't avoiding being that character.

But really, which car celebrity isn't doing that?

Harry Metcalfe - Harry's Garage - nice old grandad with a really cool car collection, delivers in a straightforward informational style like Sister Wendy the art critic. Picture Harry doing donuts hollering "POOOWWEEERRRRRR!".....yeah I can't either.

Matt Farah - amiable nice guy at the car show. Even when dudes sit next to him in their car spouting stupid inaccurate shit about their cars as he does a "one take" he just kind of says "hmmmm are you sure?" Even when he critiques the car, it's not harsh.

Tyler Hoover - Village idiot of the YouTube car guys, can you ever picture him making a good car investment? Even cars that are a good buyfrom an investment standpoint, he goes out and finds the worst possible example of the breed (witness his latest acquisition a BMW M3...but it's an E36, cabriolet with an auto trans). I can't picture him buying a "Harry's Garage" investment grade anything never mind a decent example of a car. PS Tyler, I'm not going to buy a MVMT watch, just stop it already, I fast forward over your infomercial.

Doug Demuro - excitable, same reaction every time he drives a car when he's finished doing the "quirks and features" routine, a writing style that was entertaining at first but hasn't changed in so long that any kinja commenter can easily ape it.

Chris Harris - a little harder to clearly outline his persona, good driver, knowledgeable, VERY straightforward about what he likes/doesn't like. There is no question that the TG writers/producers were playing up "grumpy, gruff Chris" character when he coached the stars in the reasonably fast car

Rory Reid - watch his Rolls Royce video he made to get the TG gig and his Focus RS video, you've seen his style. Genuine, likable, smooth. Doesn't change in his other videos.

Matt Leblanc - I don't know what the hell his style actually is, he seems too uncomfortable on camera to let it show. I never feel like I'm seeing the real him, he seems so stilted, like he's acting the part of a car show presenter not actually being a car show presenter.

Those are just the first ones that come to mind for me, I don't watch the douchey YouTube car guys (Salomondrin, Vehicle Virgins) so I don't have any idea what they're all about.

Don't get me wrong, I like having both TG and TGT and hope they both continue to thrive and improve. I just wouldn't call out the TGT hosts for doing what most others in the genre do also. Plus, the dialogue in TGT is WAY funnier even though it's scripted. The new TG hosts need to go get drunk together and have some misadventures. They seem to get along well enough now that the ginger twat (whose name shall not be spoken) is gone but there doesn't seem to be genuine friendship between them, they don't seem entirely comfortable together. Watch early TG series with Clarkson/Hammond/May and it's the same, stilted dialogue, bad jokes, poor comedic timing. The chemistry between them has developed over time.

I tried to watch a few episodes of TG and I couldn't stand Chris Harris. Rather watch car review channels on YT who basically do the same thing without the cringe worthy chemistry.

Chris Harris is pretty much the only reason I kept watching the new Top Gear.

Watch some of his older stuff that's not from Top Gear. His reviews during his /Drive days and prior are great. You can see that he gets genuinely excited at different things and I think that helps translate into having the viewers feel like they're experiencing it with him, not simply watching him.

Would be surprised if they sold it as the Supra. Toyota has never revived a dead name. It'd be a first.

Damn I didn't even know "they" came back. I know the first time it was big news but the segment was kind of a letdown. This time they came during good weather, so hopefully it's good.

I want there to be 2 good car shows and I think that TG offers more "car" content than TGT (witness TGT ep. 9 for case in point) but this is not promising. The humor and dialogue in this trailer is still stilted and they're trying too hard to be funny

The chemistry among the 3 is cringeworthy. Reminds of the cheesy and absolutely horrendous TG America.

Good episode of Grand Tour.

I'm pretty much done with Top Gear for now, I gave Matt and Rory a try but they just aren't very good compared to JRM

Having watched the latest ep of Top Gear, I feel I still prefer the production values and style of Top Gear over The Grand Tour.

The chemistry on TGT between the three of them is so obviously scripted now anyway, I actually don't mind the more stilted engagement between the new Top Gear crew. It's clear they aren't as close as the old hosts, but at least they are not trying to 'act'.
