"Ripping Ferraris, Corvettes is easy to do, it's over before it gets started they don’t know what happened. It's the difference between going and really going. It will make you grin and if you don’t know what that means you shouldn’t be driving."
5.0 can sound good IMO but 4g sounds outrageous for a swap kit
I bought sbc mounts for rx7 10 years ago for less than $150, add headers, exhaust work, driveshaft. I just don't see where that 4g is going.
a full swap kit and mount kit are two different things. Im not justifying a $3850 difference but there is going to be a staggering difference in price regardless.
The monster miata kit is quite comprehensive

I actually purchased my Miata last year with the purpose of swapping in a V8 into it.
Based on my research there are a couple options:
V8 - LS Series
- Requires significant transmission tunnel modifications and cutting
- LS1 Makes 345hp
V8 - 5L Mustang Motor
- IMO, not worth the effort for a 200~ hp motor
V6 - 3.6L LT1 and LFX (Soon to be released Link: https://www.facebook.com/V8Roadsters...661506/?type=1)
- No transmission tunnel modifications.
- LFX is direct injected with 325hp
- Tonnes of cars have this motor, the tranny needs to come from the camaro
My plan now is to wait for the LFX swap to be finalized. The early LS series motors are getting old and are becoming harder and harder to find with low milage. The LFX is direct injected and should get fantastic fuel economy to boot.
If there is a single person in the world who's opinion matters on the Monster Miata it's this guy right here:
Apparently Shelby loved it, and frankly why not? It's a modern day Cobra. And the reason why I would build it is for the fact that it gives a Cobra-like driving experience for a fraction the cost. The Monster retains the weight distribution, gives you a lot more power, most of it useable (until you get into higher hp, but that presents its own set of challenges - I've been in an 800 horse 427 Cobra rep that would barely hook up till halfway through third...) The thing is that for people of my generation and before, one of the most iconic sounds a vehicle could make was that of the Ford 5L. I know that it "makes good sense" to put a 350 into a Miata or just turbo/supercharge the stock motor but there's an appeal to me with the particular sound the 302 makes and the experience of driving a V8 roadster. It's a car that is meant as much for hooning as autocross or a track day and frankly does all three excellently.

^^ Exocet isn't worth it anymore. It got popular so the quadrupled the piece and didnt redesign it. On principal alone I'd say fuck it Posted via RS Mobile

I don't know about the Exocet's history, so I look it a purely from an overall package point of view. At the end of the day, you are looking at a 1500-ish lbs street legal car with a stiff chassis, proven and well-supported powertrain, suspension, and wheels and tires. Assuming a $5k donor car, you are looking at ~$13k + labour. To me, that seems like a pretty good deal. How many other cars can you name that would deliver this kind of performance at a similar price point?
you need to do some more research on 5.0l ford engines. They may start out at 225hp but so much more is possible with simple bolt ons and much cheaper than an ls1

Does that surprise you at all? A lot of well-sorted (production street) car will easily have more money spent on mods than on the car itself.
I don't think you understand me. From what you posted, my response is a 5k miata with 8k mods would be way faster then a stock miata with an Exocet kit. Posted via RS Mobile

An entirely valid point. With the Exocet, you really need to invest a little more than the basic $13k to get something good out of it. I would think that by the time the total invest gets closer to $17-18k, the Exocet's 800 lbs (lighter) advantage would really begin to shine.

Absolutely. You're way better off buying some surrey jack rusted 94-97 miata and convert it. Who cares if the top leaks or the interior is ratty, it's all coming out. Odds are you'll do a good tune up on the stock motor anyways ( ignoring modding for this example) so a higher km BP will be just fine.
OR just get a write off from an icbc auction for pennies and go to town. Doesn't really matter if its a "rebuilt title" if you're doing Exocet, as long as the ladder frame is intact Posted via RS Mobile
According to this page a fully dressed 5.0 is 450 lbs
Also I believe the T5 is something like 60 lbs lighter than the T56 as well
The Ford 302 with aluminum heads is actually pretty light, I've seen on Rx-7 forums where FD owners said the 302 swap was slightly lighter than their 13b turbo setup.

All these links make me want either a monster miata, or something small/light swapped with a V8.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time, space, or skills to do any of the labour, so I think it would cost me at least $20K for a decent build. For that amount...I could buy a Z06 C5.
