haha fuck. if you're into less than 1cyl then get a Ruckus :P

seriously though, I'm feeling inspired by this thread as the price point is great for a "toy" car.

if you're looking for cheap "toy" car, Japanese cars are the way to go.

Miata, CRX, Integra, Celica, Civic, RX-7, those 1980s and 1990s Japanese cars are great "toy" car for budget.

I seriously doubt numbers of cylinder has anything to do with the performance of car.

The GT-R only got 6 cylinders but it can beat all the V12 European exotics no problem.

The SHO I posted on the previous page can still beat a lot of cars nowadays. Back in its day, its performance was literally unbelievable.

I don't know why Ford wanted Yamaha to build an engine for SHO.

Ford has pretty rich history building Ferrari killer GT40 and their own F1 machines.
Also the legendary Shelby Cobra and DeTomaso Pantera were powered by Ford, later on Saleen S7 and all sorts of cars.

They absolutely sucked at building mass produced street cars though, Mustang was outta wack for a long time. So maybe that's why?

Honda Civic Type-R will smoke Ford Crown Victoria in both acceleration and handling. And yes, we're talking about Inline-4 vs V8.

While I agree whole heartedly, there are some domestic gems that can be had if one were so inclined. But that boils down to personal taste and preference. I've always favored Japanese over other countries offering for build quality and reliability. Lots of Japanese product from the 90's that can be purchased today and modded right away without it needing a shit ton of things "fixed" on it first.

what are some good grand touring type cars from the 80's or 90's that are fairly cheap now? that porsche 944 seems like a good option but i dont want it to break down on me while out for a cruise on a highway. i'm not sure im going to find much in this budget, so i may just have to sell my truck and get the corvette i've always wanted..

A well maintained 944 will not break down on the highway any worse then any other vehicle. You just have to keep searching for the right one.

This is the one to get. I think the price is a little high since it's not a Turbo, but the S2's are the best of the NA version. Pick it up for 7. They say the best way to see how a car was maintained was to look at it's original interior. That there is clean! I was looking for an S2 for about six months, and nothing came up in the BC/Washington area. Now I blow my money on a Datsun and this thing pops up. lol

Were they car savvy people? Thats really what it comes down to with MOST older euro cars. I mean, if you are taking a porsche to a porsche mechanic to do everything you will be paying out the ass, regardless of wether its a 150k GT3 or a 5k 944

I dated a girl for three years that had a 944 and that thing cost her between $3-$6k per year to keep on the road as her daily driver. You may as well do your own group buy on steering racks - they go through one per year it seems like. Porsche mechanics will have a few refurbished units sitting in their shop, waiting for the next 944 to roll in.
