E38?
1998-2001?
RUN! RUN! RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!!!!
<- Had 2 E38s with timing guide failures. One poorly maintained, one extremely well maintained.
Edit: My most recent timing guide failure happened a few months after pulling the valve covers and oil pan to inspect everything. Everything looked ok. They still disintegrated a few weeks ago. If you want one for cheap, I'll sell you mine. Silver on black with nav, hydraulic trunk and mp3/bluetooth. Just gotta fix the guides |

You cant be considered an enthusiast until you've owned one or more for a while dealt with the issues and forge on. Until then you're a newb, groupie or fan boy.

The V12 car belongs to my friend, I borrowed that car for a month, it's definitely one of the nicer cars I've driven. I could get 25mpg with a v12 haha. I absolutely love the e38's.

Cause once you pay for the car, pay for insurance, pay for gas. I'm pretty sure you are going to be at your wits if you have to pay thousands for repairs.
Unless you are some sort of kid prodigy at repairing cars?
Or maybe you are sponsored by mommy and daddy? Although I doubt mom & dad would let you buy that kind of car.
My bet is you are a kid who has scraped together enough money and is looking to get his first car and he wants something decent, but has no understand of actually owning a car. Sound about right?
EDIT: and wow that 750iL looks like a beaut.

As a 2001 530i owner, I say don't do it for a first car.
I've replaced the guides on my buddies 540i (m62), and just the parts are around $2K.
Even if you pick up the car for $5K, and nothing major goes wrong, there will still be broken window regulators, missing pixels, ABS problems, and the list goes on and on.
It will be death by $200 at a time, and gas mileage will suck.
BTW, have you ever worked on a car before? and if so, what type of car and what did you do?
