Singapore

I'll be going to Singapore around the beginning of May for about 2 weeks. I was wondering what is there to do down there for anyone who has been? Any recommendations? I'd also like to see how the nightlife is there

If you are a golfer then check out a few of the courses

walk around clarke quay during the evenings as well as bar hop in that area.

There are some cool prohibition style bars check those out as well. This is one of them - 28HKS they only accept reservations, no walk ins.

go to the top of marina bay sands for the view and check out Ku De Ta while up there. I personally didnt like it that much but worth going early for the view and a few drinks

Check out a restuarant called Les Amis, there are a bunch of other restaurants on the same street all owned by the same company and call good. I think the japanese one beside it is called Aoki or something (expect to drop a few hundred Sing) there is also a rustic italian that is on the same street too.

clubs - Zouk, Fenix, Mink

Go to Brix at the Grand Hyatt

Singapore is awesome, I used to live there and my dad's side of the family is from there. Can't help much with nightlife but I do have general tips.

The food in Singapore is amazing... Eat lots! There's this guidebook called the Makan Sutra which is very handy and useful. Check out the Marina Bay area. Hawker centres are cheap and so good. Watch the Anthony Bourdain episodes on Singapore for good tips. You can go crazy expensive or cheap but delicious. I miss the food so bad.

The Gardens by the Bay are pretty cool, so is the Singapore Flyer. Go up to Ku De Ta at the Marina Bay Sands and have a drink at the Sky Terrace without having to pay for a ticket. Go to the 'Durian' aka the Esplanade Theatre. Go to the Singapore Botanical Gardens. Go to Jurong Bird Park and have lunch with the birds. Lots of very interesting museums as well. Sentosa Island is touristy but fun. East Coast Park is interesting, worth a morning stroll if you have time.

Orchard Road for the endless line of shopping malls. Go get lost at Mustafa Centre, it's huge. ION Orchard, Tanglin Place for all your high end shopping needs. So many to choose from haha.

There's lots of history in Singapore too. Check out Little India and Little China. Clarke Quay is amazing at night. Go to Fort Canning, which has been converted from a military base to shops and restaurants. The Raffles Hotel is interesting to visit, and is the birthplace of the Singapore Sling. Pulau Ubin is worth a day trip, it's like an old school village only a 15 minute boat ride away from a bustling metropolis. Like going back in time to Singapore in the 1950's.

Two weeks is a lot of time in Singapore. You could book a cheap ticket to Bali for a few days and have fun there too. Or take day trips to Johor Bahru in Malaysia.

^Roastpuff nailed most of the good places. Universal Studios is on Sentosa and also a Casino if your into that stuff (tip: you can't wear anything thats higher than your knees in the casino for guys as well as other restrictions like no backpacks).

Hawker Centers are all over the place, make sure before you go to find out which ones you want to hit up, there are a couple that have some famous stalls like Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken.

Marina Bay has the famous rooftop infinity pool that all the people try to check out, from what I heard there are numerous ways to sneak in such as pretending to be a guest at the hotel, or sneaking in behind other guests etc etc. ( If any one has tips on this post it! I have yet to go up there!). You need to actually pay to go to the rooftop of Marina Bay from what I recall but you can negate this admission fee by saying you are going to the bar's on the top.

Not going to lie, but when I was near Clarke Quay/ Fullerton Hotel area they sometimes have these guys with ice cream stalls that sell icecream wrapped in wafer crackers and that stuff was bomb. Also another tip, if you need to take a dump or piss, go into the Fullerton lol.

Some other random tips, when you are at restaurants they will have those wet napkins and maybe some nut snacks on the table. This shit is not included, they actually charge you for using this so if you want to save a couple bucks keep that in mind! Also, make sure to bring spare change when you use the washrooms at the hawker centres as some are pay admission. When you are in Hawkers you can see which stall is worthy of trying by the amount of people lining up for food, or simply just walk around and see what you feel like eating since most of the should be fairly decent to be able to survive there. Something I tried that was very addicting and a refreshment alternative to pop was sugarcane juice with lemon.

As roastpuff said, two weeks is quite a long time so take it easy and don't try to cram a lot since you can pretty much see all the touristy stuff in 3-5 days. IMO one of the best places to go and probably the best place for eats...
