Beautiful car.....and great colour too. With the collector plates, how much leeway do you get with upgrades and modifications?
It is currently eligible for collector plates as it stands. If I did safety upgrades like brakes and shoulder belts etc then that is allowed. They are picky about the interior and radio as well as wheels and basic engine appearance. Engine does not have to be original but 'era correct' within three years of the car's age.

Where is this section and how do I get access to it?
At the top of the VAC section there's something called "Member's Journals" where one can post a build thread for their car. It requires a certain number of posts to access however, so i don't think you'll be able to yet.

I can't see it either. I think I need more posts.

Where did you find that info? They won't even let me put a 4barrel carb on my 68 Mustang so I find it hard to believe you can change the entire engine??? Posted via RS Mobile

Like I said, it has to be era correct. If your engine never had a 4 Barrel then that is wrong for that engine. Although it would be impossible for them to tell with the air cleaner on. So the engine must be within three years of the vehicle's model year like I said. This information was provided to me by the previous owner and he had collector plates on when I bought the car.

Coming down from Squamish like 18 years ago in my 1970 Nova SS with drums, my brakes faded so badly that I had to pull the e-brake and downshift to avoid going off the cliff, nearly shit my pants

Umm, The E brake works the same drum as your real brakes….. I'd say they weren't working properly. Drums can work great, hell they used them for decades! I wouldn't want to track them, but they are good from A to B.

No close calls but I am very cognisant of the limitations of the car. It also has manual steering so going around corners can be a little slow and calculated. In normal traffic I allow an extra car length between me and guy in front of me for safety as I know the brakes are not going to be up to modern standards. Surprisingly the car only weighs about 3100 lbs which is less than my 350Z so it is relatively nimble for its age.
That said, I still want to do a disc brake upgrade along with a power brake booster. These safety additions so they would not affect the collector plates (if I decide to get them later).

Welcome to the mopar club! I just sold one of mine and am waiting for the weather to get a little better to bring the other out. 67' coronet 440. I did a small system in it but also did the power disk brake upgrade. OEM booster and master with a wilwood kit. It took some fabrication and tinkering but I've never had a car that stopped faster.

E brakes on a car of that era are cable operated, not fluid operated. Ever superheated your brake fluid? cable activated e brakes will stop you when overheated brake fluid will not.

You may want to check that information....the criteria never used to be like that. appearance has to be era correct, but mechanicals such as engine and transmission have to date and period correct.
A 1965 Mustang with a 428 will not pass and should not.
