If I can still use the irons then I'm set. I'm tempted to grab a riser now even if I haven't got the funds for a scope just in case the risers disappear.

Zedbra 04-12-2017 07:44 PM

I bought mine from Trade Ex: https://www.tradeexcanada.com/conten...-scope-mount--

A 40mm bell is as big as you should go and longer scopes are fine. I currently have a Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40mm on there and have a new Prostaff 5 4.5-18x40mm FFP that I am going to mount on it soon.

Great first choice.

Zedbra 04-13-2017 05:08 AM

Nice Sig. Have you joined a range yet? The CFO is going to require a copy of your membership before they approve a transfer. Even though it is not a requirement under the Firearms Act, it is something the CFOs are demanding or your pistol never makes it into your hands.

originalhypa 04-13-2017 10:12 AM

I hope it's not like that in Kamloops, but almost all of the ranges in the 604 are full now and not accepting new members.

Abbotsford has a waiting list that fluctuates from 6 months to a year. Poco is downsizing, Brookswood is rimfire and shotgun only. I'm currently a member at the indoor range in Langley, but at $500/yearly it's not affordable for a lot of folks. A lack of ranges, combined with the 400m closures on outdoor shooting, we are in the midst of death by a thousand cuts.

And they said not to bring a knife to a gun fight.....

Zedbra 04-15-2017 07:37 AM

Hondaracer - I sent an email off to a gunsmith I know in Victoria to see if he has a barrel for you or if he knows where to find one. I will let you know what he says. I saw your ad on CGN as well - good luck with the search. It may take time, just be patient.

Well, I just received a reply from the gunsmith and not good news - here's what he said: Not available. The old ones were not interchangeable, required factory fitting.

incubus 04-15-2017 12:09 PM

I've been through a few pistols my 226 combat is definitely a keeper,

You should've gotten the Sao 226 legion that thing is money.

Zedbra 04-17-2017 11:35 AM

Had a blast at the range on Sunday - shot 150 shots at trap. Good group of guys and a nice sunny day. Afterwards, managed to plink with my sons' new CZ Scout and was nailing golf balls at 75 yards with open sights; typical CZ accuracy.

My newly acquired Ithaca 900 was not wanting to extract shells, so I found a great video on Youtube and went to town stripping and cleaning it this morning; it was filthy inside, it took a whole can of break cleaner just to clean the trigger group, the bolt, and the recoil spring. Now it is as clean as new - so I'm curious if that also clears up the extraction issues (which most people say a good bolt/extractor cleaning will do). I'm almost tempted to go and grab my 20g Ithaca and give it a good clean, but then my other part of my brain is saying if it isn't broken, leave it alone.

incubus 04-17-2017 03:49 PM

That should help also some shotguns like the higher brass

Zedbra 04-17-2017 08:00 PM

I ended up stripping and cleaning my other Ithaca 900 20g, that only took 40 minutes from leaving the safe, getting stripped, and then going back into the safe. So - figured what the heck - grabbed my Breda 12g long recoil and had that one stripped and cleaned in about 20 minutes. Now all these long recoils should be good for another 20 years before getting ripped apart.

SeemsGood

Weld up the firing pin and put it on the wall.
Rip to the old school ithaca.
:(

On a side note I pressed 200 rounds of 357 over the weekend. A nice mix of low cap loads, mid and finished off with max loads. Hopefully I get to hit the indoor range tomorrow night to see how they work.

Goodbye lead, hello Barry's round nose 158gr.

[Calgary Shooting Centre] Glock Madness *appears to be extended* - RedFlagDeals.com Forums

So this sale looks to be quite good, with prices after shipping and taxes coming in below local Vancouver retailers. Any opinions on G17 G4 vs G19 G3 or G4?

incubus 04-18-2017 07:17 PM

The only people who brought in gen 4 19s had a lone wolf after market barrel and charged an arm and a leg for them.

I've owned both both great just get whatever fits your hand better. 19 is cool and all if the threaded barrel doesn't bug you.

If I could do it again I'd do a Glock 17 with a 19 frame cut.

Gen 3 imo it's the longest running Gen and if it's not broke don't fix it.

I wouldn't support TSC because of their involvement in the whole Swiss Arms/CZ fiasco. But I can't say anything bad about the Glocks. As much crap as they take, they are a very nice gun to shoot. The way a Glock fits in your hands, and how the sights work is based on a smart design. I'd love to get my hands on a 17. The 19 is good, but I like the way the 17 fits in a larger hand.

I'm not up to date on the Swiss Arms/CZ debacle beyond that the RCMP arbitrarily decided to ban the AK-style firearms.

Is CSC (Calgary Shooting Centre) same as the TSC that you are mentioning?

originalhypa 04-19-2017 12:53 PM

^
Sorry, I meant CSC.
It was changed by my autocorrect and I never noticed it.

There are a few stories going around, but what is known is that the owner of the CSC and the owner of TSE (the shooters edge) got into a spat and someone turned someone else into the RCMP for modifying the receiver of a swiss arms rifle for full auto use. The RCMP saw this and ran with it stating that the Swiss Arms and CZ rifles were too easy to convert to full auto, and had to be prohibited. It's a mess of he said/she said.

But dem Glock prices.......

:fuckyea:

I did some reading... and it was mentioned that the Swiss Arms/CZ rifle ban was lifted? Is that true, or did the National Post get it wrong?

Harper government reversed RCMP?s ban on two rifle brands on eve of election | National Post

Goodbye lead, hello Barry's round nose 158gr.

After shooting 158g CJ bullets for a while, I am moving back to lead. You will notice that some loads are probably not as accurate with the CJ bullets.

If I remember right it wasn't really lifted, but there is an amnesty for those owners. Of course, it's temporary and under review from the RCMP.

I have a friend with two very nice CZ rifles, and he was really nervous for a while there. Not knowing whether or not your rifles are legal is not a good situation to be in.

damn.
I'm trying to find the holy grail of reloading my rounds to shoot like a factory load. But it's not easy, with lots of trial and error so far.

I guess I find it interesting that approximately 3 years ago almost to the day I created this thread in Off-Topic to ask about courses. 3 years later I've taken my PAL/RPAL, bought 2 hand guns, and *was* in the market for an AR-15.

It seems any decent range is either full and not taking memberships or they're open but want some stupid high membership fee. Paired with the fact that not a lot of them are close to where I live. I'm talking under 30 mins to drive to from my home to the range. Will wait for someone to chime in and say "oh that's not too long/too far/etc". Gas prices and ammo prices being what they are, even if I did purchase a rifle, I doubt I'd be able to afford to go often enough to the range to get even halfway decent with it.

Zedbra 04-23-2017 06:33 AM

I am not a fan of the 'black gun' look and also ballistics, but with this Liberal government looking our way, I figured I should pick up an AR15 while it is still an option. It is a fun gun to shoot, my kids can shoulder it and they like it, but it doesn't come to the range with me every time.

That's the problem with the AR chassis. It really is a cool gun to shoot, but it's completely limited to range use. So unless you're a serious or competitive shooter, it's limited to being a range queen. That is a bit of a shame too, as it's a well rounded gun with unlimited aftermarket potential.

Uh, okay then.
I guess some folks just care more about shooting. My range in Abbotsford is $200/yr, and it takes me about 35 minutes to get there. The indoor range in Langley is $450/yr and is about five minutes from my house. Convenience costs money, and since almost everything comes out of the US, the dollar isn't helping us right now. So you diversify. I load my own ammo, and I'm always looking for deals. You get guns in one or two different calibers. It's not a cheap hobby, and the gov't doesn't make it easy on us. But if the passion is there, you make it happen. I know so many people choked about the new shooting bans in the fraser valley. But instead of crying about it, we're looking at options. Someone even mentioned buying a boat and heading to the north end of Pitt or Stave. Sometimes you need to adapt and put in a little more effort.

I know zed thanked you for your post and I respect that. But I know there are at least 4 of us here who read this and thought "is this guy for real?".
