Had a good night at the trap range tonight, very happy! Used the club gun, just a plain old Stoeger over/under but it fit me much better than the SXP that I have. Managed to shoot a 20, which is the best that I've ever done. Didn't do too bad at 3-gun bush either!
Looks like I am going to be looking for a new shotgun that fits me much better!

Grouse River has a bunch of stuff on clearance now. It seems to mostly be random odds and ends, but if any of it happens to be what you need the prices seem rather cheap.

They may be going out of business?

I'm not sure, the Kelowna store has apparently been closed for renovations for a while but some of these prices scream going out of business. When you call the number on the site it goes straight to the "after hours" script and asks if you want to leave a message. Nothing I'm ordering is essential so it's not a huge deal if something is late or not sent.

CGN is losing it with Grouse River. They were a great store, and it would be a shame if they shut down.

They are shut down. From the calls I've gotten it seems like some other people have been brought it in handle liquidating the inventory.

Yeah, they sent an email to GOC and HBC sites a few weeks ago that they are officially closing business and closing their sponsor accounts. I liked the store, their prices were kind of high, but I still bought some things from them when I was in town.

Sup y'all.
So I got this notice from the Range in Langley that I have to take a tavtical course to get access to the tactical range after August 1st. Quote:
Good Day Range Member!
We would like to remind you of the Tactical Range Orientation that will be required of all Range Members in order to maintain access after Aug 1, 2017. We have already processed over 100 members and if you have already completed this requirement, thank you for attending and please disregard this reminder.
If you have not yet completed your Tactical Range Orientation, please note the newly released dates:
Sunday, July 23 @ 11am or 3pm
Monday, July 24 @ 5:30pm or 7:30pm
Wednesday, July 26 @ 5:30pm or 7:30pm
Friday, July 28 @ 5:30pm or 7:30pm
Additional dates to follow.
1. Overview
The following information may appear intimidating to some Members that are unfamiliar with dynamic shooting. We would like to preface this information by assuring you it is very basic and easily achievable by those who are both experienced and those who are not. The topics described herein are a bare bones orientation that demonstrate basic safety for purposes of insurance, self confidence and confidence in fellow Members that anyone who shows up in the range is credentialed on the fundamentals. THIS IS NOT A COURSE DESIGNED TO TEACH METHODS OR SKILLS OF DYNAMIC SHOOTING. This orientation is simply a method of instilling safety benchmarks for all Members and ensuring that insurance requirements are met. The Orientations are formatted for adult learning and are designed for ease of comprehension. Questions you may have relating to the instructional material in this communication or otherwise can be answered at your orientation in detail.
2. Operation
The new dynamic shooting privileges should be considered as ADDED VALUE FOR ALL MEMBERS. This means Members without much experience should not feel intimidated or discouraged from using the Tactical Range. The activities in the Tactical Range will not exceed the threshold of the Member with the least dynamic desires at anytime. Furthermore, we believe many Members with experience are happy to pass their knowledge along and available staff are also always happy to help less experienced Members. We anticipate the Tactical Range will be operating with a subdued level of dynamic shooting during free/open peak hours. It’s unlikely a synchronized coordination of dynamic shooting drills / events will be unanimously agreed upon because of the many different Members during these times. Again, these privileges are to allow for dynamic shooting when practicable.
3. Bookings and Events
Before we offer house tournaments, there will be an initial period that we will be feeling things out and assessing emerging requests for events from Members. Members who wish to organize events and competitions are encouraged to put proposals to staff. We look forward to Member initiated ideas and encourage maximum participation from the Membership body.
4. Processing / Orientation
Members are asked to call or email to book a Tactical Range Orientation (No-shows will be assessed a $20 fee). Orientations are expected to last approx. 2 hours.
5. Kit and equipment Members are required to bring:
•Rifle w/ sling + 50 rounds ammo + 2 x magazine pouches w/ belt
•Pistol w/ holster + 50 rounds ammo + 2 x magazine pouches w/ belt
(Members without any of the above items will be provided loaner gear for free. House provided ammo for the qualification is .223 & 9mm and charged at regular pricing.)
Orientation format:
•Instructional presentation by staff
•Skill testing quiz
•Practical demonstration by staff
•Practical test
Successfully tested Members will have additional insurance waivers and member records processed. This credentialing requires one time processing fee of $47.50 and is valid for the indeterminate length of continuous Membership. Successful completion will credential Members to use Tactical Range after Aug 1, 2017. Any Members failing to demonstrate the required competencies at time of testing will be required to wait 24 hours before re-testing and will not be charged the processing fee until they have successfully passed and are properly credentialed.
Please note, Black Badge, IPSIC, alternative range credentialing, Law enforcement / military qualification etc, is not a substitute for this orientation and is required to be completed for liability purposes by ALL MEMBERS.
TACTICAL RANGE OUTLINE DYNAMIC SHOOTING ACTIVITIES
•Removing tables
•Slung long arms
•Drawing from holster
•Advancing to target
•Prone, kneeling and standing shooting
•Barricades and props
•Low light / Police light shooting
•Transitioning from Primary to Secondary
•Group movements
•Tournaments and competitions
Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you at The Range!
| I'm actually pretty excited about this. The only problem is, what long rifle and pistol should I bring?
I would love to run the 357 Mare's leg and S&W 357 revolver. One type of ammo, but they won't let me run the lever and wheel gun. Now I need a holster for my Jericho 941, and a sling for the t97. Unless I can get an AR in time to make the Aug 1st cutoff.
decisions.....

I ended up using their equipment. An ar, and a sig 226. Both worked really well.
I brought out my t97 and Jericho, but I only had two mags for the Jericho. You need three in order to pick up a dropped mag while maintaining shooting stance. As for the ar, I wanted to see what the fuss was about.
I like the ar chassis.
We did some walking on the firing line, changing positions, switching between primary and secondary firearms, and changing mags while moving forward. It was a lot of fun. I have to look into whether or not the range in Abby has going on.

On another topic - do we have any waterfowl hunters in this thread? Looking to get into it, and I am wondering if anyone can share tips or starting points.
I'd even be interested in a guided hunt if anyone has an outfitter to recommend.

They just preferred that I use a center fire, as my 1911 is only a rimfire. If I had a week to prepare, I would have been able to grab a holster for my Jericho, and a sling for my T97.
The T97 has been shooting like a champ. The last 300 rounds have been failure free. That said, after shooting my buddie's base model S&W mp15 last night, I am truly in love. Shotty plastic bits that should be replaced asap, but the overall feel of the rifle was awesome.

I'd even be interested in a guided hunt if anyone has an outfitter to recommend. | I was thinking more of the 1911s traditionally being .45acp and some places don't like them being used on their targets or the backdrops for inside ranges might not handle the calibre in different locations on a course.

Almost have all the pieces I want for this build. Just waiting for my bolt group, bipod, and fore grip to arrive. I will be adding my Strike Eagle to this for a long range shooter. Off to Frank at Cerakote BC to get this looking how I want it.
Easier to edit on my laptop. Build is as follows:
Dlask custom CCFR lower with custom serial number
Dlask 20" 5.56 chrome lined barrel
Dlask buffer tube kit
Dlask bolt carrier group
Phase 5 upper
Strike Industries red charge handle
Phase 5 Fatman muzzle break
Generic True North Arms lower kit, gas tube, 17" M-Lok hand rail, low profile gas block, 45 degree back-up sights, 30mm bubble level, and skeletonized buttstock.
Magpul BAD bolt release
Will have: Strike Eagle 1-6 w/ Vortex cantilever mount, generic red hand guard, and a generic bipod.
I am going to Cerakote most of it Sniper Green with black mixed throughout. Frank is going to colour fill the logo and Pew / No Pew on the safety, plus the Dlask Canada flag on the lower. Should look good.
