I would guess this too.

Maybe mute out the video though if sending into City or ICBC sounds like you "marked the location" to hit it :troll:

Looks like you were due for an oil change anyways :troll:

Sucks bro, hope it gets fixed soon.

SpeedStars 04-22-2014 04:59 PM

:heckno: looks like my car when the oil filter housing was leaking like a mofo. Any updates from city of Richmond?

a00755836 04-22-2014 05:23 PM

man that hurt. that manhole cover was so unexpected. good thing you went at your own risk to put back the cover.

watch out for sea island way too. they have construction pylons everywhere. i ran over a flat pylon this morning.

maxxxboost 04-22-2014 07:10 PM

Sucks! One of my fears when driving a lowered car.

How much is a new oil pan/labour?

I remember when i hydrolocked my engine in a huge puddle on the off-ramp leading to HWY 1. Long story short, I paid $300 and ICBC covered it (new engine). I had pictures, RCMP statements to back up my claim. Hope it works out for you.

J.C 04-22-2014 07:21 PM

leaving this all with icbc so we'll see if they go after the city for this
front subframe is dented aswell

I wonder if OP should raise his car back up to stock. What if ICBC asks him to bring his car in and it's practically lowered to the ground, might try to shaft OP saying his car was too low and a normal car at stock height would have no problem clearing that manhole cover???

godwin 04-22-2014 11:17 PM

Define shafting? If the car is low enough not to pass vi.. then ICBC has every right to deny him.. you are paying for this damage too.. so is everyone paying into the program.

Besides with his car list so publicly on a forum.. once ICBC caught wind of this all hell will break loss on OP..

Expresso 04-23-2014 08:39 AM

I don't think I've heard anything like that ever happening.

radioman 04-23-2014 08:47 AM

Wow! Looks like they used the same DPRK metal on previous gen's too!

Hope this gets all sorted out JC

westopher 04-23-2014 09:14 AM

If your car is lowered at all, never mind slammed, the city of richmond will not only tell you to go fuck yourself, they will probably give you a VI as well.

the city of Richmond cannot issue him a VI.

well if your car was lowered more than what it was allowed, they will probably send you a bill to replace the manhole cover.

The cover was up again this morning @ 10:09 am.

There were people who looked like they were fixing it..?

J.C 04-25-2014 04:04 PM

wow just leaving that in the middle of the road
so this not only happened once, but again.

xXSupa 04-25-2014 04:07 PM

they were walking towards the hole, so I don't know if they were fixing it or if someone else left it there. When I came back 15 minutes later, the cover was closed.

Timpo 04-25-2014 05:38 PM

That's actually dangerous to keep that right in the middle of the road.

I would definitely do not want to hit that when I'm riding a motorcycle.

LC21 04-25-2014 06:07 PM

Timpo what kind of gtr do you ride?

fliptuner 04-25-2014 06:36 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if, for whatever reason, the cover no longer sits snug and when a car drives over it a certain way, it pops up.

for anyone curious, the city declined my claim because they do not do routine inspections on the road and rely on our reports and calls. there were no prior reports of this and they said nothing could've been done to prevent it if they didn't know about it

oh well, i'm just happy the car is okay and running

320icar 05-21-2014 11:29 PM

i wouldn't be happy with that. we have 3 or more people on here with video/picture evidence showing that it was an ongoing issue that was NOT fixed immedietly. therefore even if someone called in about it 2 weeks prior to your accident, odds are you still would have hit it since their dunce like reaction time.
