2014 Lancer EVO MR vs 2015 Sti

Can someone explain why the ancient 7 yr old EVO MR costs more than the coming WRX Sti?

I have a family friend who is debating between both.

Last of its kind, perhaps? It's not like they'll be making any more after this year... I personally wouldn't be surprised if some dealers weren't marking them up.

thats a stupid question. and they cost the roughly the same. you or your friend are simply complaining that an outgoing model of one brand costs the same as a upcoming model of another.

why does the 2013 M3 (outgoing) cost the same (actually more) as a 2013 RS5 (upcoming)? same stupid question, different cars.

Because that's the price Mitsubishi came up with.

Back in 2005, people couldn't understand why NSX was priced at $143,000+tax for the ancient 15 year old car when you could buy a Viper, Vette and 911 for less.

I don't think Mitsus are selling too hot so you might be able to get better deals on them.

Well, to be fair to the Mitsu, the STI still has the "ancient" EJ engine that originally dates back to the late 80s...the engine has been in Ward's 10 best engine list several times, and no one complains that its old.

I still don't think 2014 Sti and 2015 Sti have significant difference other than some facelifts, some minor tuning here and there, etc.

STi and Evo have been stuck with approx. 280-300hp for decades now.

I would have hoped at least 450+hp by now.

It's a 7 year old design. You're looking at a brand new car.

You expect the msrp to drop every year until there is a redesign?

I would totally get a hybrid evo. Hybrids have a lot more torque than regular combustion engines. If Maclaren and Porsche can make a hybrid hypercar, Mitsubishi can make a hybrid sports car.

I don't expect it to drop, but I am wondering if new Sti has more improvements over the 7yrs old EVO for cheaper market value

I'd take a design that has been proven for 7 years over something new and full of potential issues just waiting to appear.

LOL, then everybody will just wait till the last year of production to buy it, if you think the price should be cheaper than the other competitor just because they have a new model coming out.

and plus, your comparing it to Sti, thats coming out with a new model.

what if you were comparing it to some other company.

I don't know why people shy away from first-production run (MY) cars... it's 2014, not 1993 and we are talking about Japanese cars....

I pounded on my 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi (first MY in North America) for 6 years and 200,000KMs and that car never ONCE skipped a beat! Not once.

^ first year for that model, but wasn't it heavily based on the previous model?

Fair - but the 2002 WRX before it wasn't problematic either. . That's what prompted me to buy the STI.

Both WRX and STI had been released in Asia/Europe/Australia prior for years prior to that release date...so I think it's not really a first year model.
