Even if its not perfect it will look better than trashed paint. I mean, you can pay someone to wrap it and make it perfect, but on a 3-4k car, I'd rather spend 500 bucks and a weekend with a couple buds and a few 26's | +1 . I know a $500 paint job will suck, but the car is really not worth that much, so it's justified.
If it was my money, instead of spending $3K on a decent paint job, sell your car, buy a low-mileage '96 miata for $3K more and you'll have a much nicer car.
My friend has a red '96 with 50K on it and the original paint is mint.

Here's some 3M vinyl swatches. You do not have to go with Matte.
A good quality paint job can cost $5000 +

Gotta agree with the others who said that in the end, you'll get the best result by selling your car and buying a new one in the colour you want.
A $500 paint job will result in $1000 depreciation, as well as look like crap.
Wrap job is possible… depends how much DIY you do on the side. If me and my friends tried to wrap my car.. it would definitely take more than a weekend, will look like crap, and we probably would have damaged something.

maaco has taxi-special paintjobs.
but if show quality is not a concern but low cost is, i will have to vouch for penny also.

personally.. if youre on a budget.
these are your options.
1. leave it
2. sand/bondo/wrap the car (yourself)
3. sand/bondo/weld/fix rent tools and maybe a garage if you have one. and paint it yourself.
personally. if i have to repaint my car, and i have access to a garage. i would do it myself.
its fun, you learn, and its cheap

Do all the prep work yourself and just bring it in for them to spray. It shouldn't be that bad.. if there's orange peel, just spent a day or two wet sanding and you should be good to go. Good prep work and wet sanding will make your $500 paint job look like a $3000 one.

No, he used a small foam roller and thinned the crap out of the paint.
