996 is good value if you get the Turbo, GT3, etc and not the regular ones.

westopher 11-14-2014 01:12 PM

I don't know. The prospect of a 17k carrera to flog on the weekends is an insane value to me. Lots of the issues are exaggerated, and as people talk about the poor build quality of the interior should consider many would gladly take the seats out and throw in some Pole positions. The rest of the interior doesn't matter. All you are going to care about is the seats, shifter and steering wheel. These are still 911s, and they drive like 911s.

bcrdukes 11-14-2014 01:26 PM

Ewww 996 that's like for poor people.

tofu1413 11-14-2014 01:53 PM

996 is like the e36 of the Porsche world. Not the greatest, but still drives like the brand and is good value.

fishCak3s 11-14-2014 02:17 PM

Maybe we need to ask Marco for his opinion on this guys

SumAznGuy 11-14-2014 03:54 PM

What do you guys think about a Mazdaspeed miata?
2004 Mazda Miata Mazdaspeed

Or should I pony up a few more $$$ and get a 996 C4S like Marco?

If it's not a C4S, it's as good as garbage.

$8 Canadian Tire floormats in a $60,000 Porsche... yikes.

It's all in the details - floormats are no big deal, but if he was too cheap to buy proper mats, you really think he paid the BIG premium for the appropriate oil or brake fluid to maintain the car?

PandaDog 11-14-2014 06:30 PM

Or maybe he bought the cheaper floormats so he could afford paying for regular maintenance

IMO The 911 is dead to me after the 993 and before the 997.

Wouldnt it have been easier just to say you dont like 996s?

SpartanAir 11-14-2014 10:53 PM

Perhaps, but the 996 was out for a long time, and had slight changes over its life. It just never got better. Surely they realized that, which is why the 997 looks like a modern 993.

68style 11-14-2014 10:57 PM

Makes sense that the guy who only drives cars shaped like bricks would hate the roundest version of the 911 :troll:

Yet it's come up time and time again. I recall a few months ago there were two AP1's for sale; one was unmodified with the OEM kit, and one had light authentic JDM reversible mods (wheels, exhaust, suspension). Both were under $15k and both sold within days of posting.

If you're talking about me and my wagon fetish, then you're right :fuckthatshit:

But I must say I like simpler lines on my cars. The 996 headlights are notoriously ugly. Why they strayed from classic 911 headlights is beyond me. For the Boxster, I get the headlights; it's a different car. But if you're going to keep making the same car like Porsche has for decades, don't overdesign it. That's what they did.

flagella 11-16-2014 11:16 AM

Agree 996 is prob the worst looking ones, although I've always had a soft spot for red 996 turbo.

996 does actually provide a great driving experience, but the narrow body cars are ugly as fack.. the dash seems more attractive when you're actually driving the car IMO.

I would drive a 996 C4s as a winter car, some poor people (aka Marco) even drive them as a summer car.
