Any love for the 135i? Great little potent cars.

My buddy has one and tries to track it, it’s been a complete pain in the ass something always going wrong whether it gets heat soaked or ECU triggers and limits boost blah blah blah... so annoying

whitev70r 06-11-2019 01:14 PM

Neighbour had a 1 series, nothing but issues. He got rid of it.

Jmac 06-11-2019 01:28 PM

My co-worker has one, he seems to like it. Wish BMW put an LSD in it. N54 is notorious for HPFP issues (grenade)

underscore 06-11-2019 02:04 PM

A friend of mine had one, granted it was an auto but it sold for a lot less than $15.8k.

Energy 06-11-2019 02:29 PM

Had a BMW with an N54 engine. Great when it works but had so many part failures. I'm getting too old and impatient to deal with all the problems so I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd get a 128i for the track. There was a few pages in this thread a while back that were all about 128i. They make pretty good power with a few bolt ons too

TouringTeg 06-11-2019 05:27 PM

Although far more expensive I would hope the 1M would be better on track. Factory LSD and few HPFP issues. They still blow up the plastic charge pipe, kill fuel injectors and require carbon cleaning.

Maybe a 1 series thread is needed

Here’s a decent deal on a 135i vert. There was a black one for sale on CL recently that was a little less but more km.

wife had a 128i, we gave the car to her mom who still drives it today. pretty damn reliable for what it is. only did 1 head gasket, timing tensioner, and a leaky windshield water pump so far.

not bad for a bmw. :alone:

twitchyzero 06-11-2019 08:57 PM

e88 always reminds me of a bath tub on wheels

a bit overpriced but a hell of a powerplant

by buddy recently picked up a 135i with 70.000 kms for $13.000

there are not many cars on the street that you can pick up for under 10k and have 500hp by spending another $1500-2000 on parts

Plus labor, plus tires and other maintenance items.

Pretty soon that "great deal" doesn't seem so awesome anymore.
:heckno:

westopher 06-12-2019 04:59 PM

Because other cars don't need those things?
Yes, cars cost money.

StanleyR 06-12-2019 09:24 PM

Not at that mileage.

twitchyzero 06-12-2019 11:59 PM

how do you turn a modern bmw from 300hp to 500hp with just 2g?

it wont need a beefier trans? the engine internals will hold up fine?

vitaminG 06-13-2019 02:44 AM

^
Intake, exhaust, charge pipe, down pipe, intercooler, tune, probably a tank full of e85 too to hit 500hp. Engine internals holds more than that, trannies too.

Add 200hp to it and they will, regardless of the milage.

where can you get e85 in vancouver? google comes up spotty at best

crazy...2k maybe used to get you 40whp if you're lucky

westopher 06-13-2019 07:51 PM

I remember in my mk5 GTI I think $600 got like 80whp. Turbo cars are so wild in that sense.

jaaagman 06-13-2019 09:18 PM

Man, why are all the cheap Miatas on the island. Seems like we only get overpriced junk here in the mainland. For a clean looking BRG w/HT, even with the minor damage its super cheap at $1750. Could be a good candidate for a manual swap.

$1,750 · 1996 Mazda Miata

1.8L 4cyl, automatic, power steering, cd stereo with aux and usb, alloy wheels, hardtop and soft top. 241,000 kms. runs good. new tires, battery and windshield in the past year. Some right front fender/door damage. air bag light on. Cheap on fuel and an affordable summer convertible.
