i'm a honda fan girl and as sweet as the shifter and motor is in the S2000...i'd be crazy to pick a convertible over a coupe with 6cyls humming behind the seats...assuming a dealer-maintained example would have better insight on the prospect of an IMS failure

despite what the internet is predicting, I have not seeing S2000/old school Type R appreciate in value in the local market

unless CRRRRar

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/rds...912837140.html

either way, buying car as an investment seems silly...i'd feel guilty driving it and S2000 are now starting to hit 20 year mark meaning replacement of things here and there which will add up, not even minding the insurance/a space to park said money in vancouver

I'm a Honda guy that ended up in a P-car. I really like the s2k but the Cayman S is way more car for the same money. It's a shame the owner didn't address the IMS when the clutch was replaced. You'te in there anyways... The more I look at this Cayman, the more I warm to it. Budget for an IMS solution and AOS and you have a nice daily. Nice but not too nice. Open diff though.

tofu1413 06-18-2019 08:56 AM

Love My Hondas, but how I feel is the cayman is better value. (has to be an S though)

a well serviced Cayman will be a nice driver. end of the day those Caymans are still worth 20k.....

steering feels great and the naturally aspirated flat six sings a nice song at all ranges.

Im a fan of the S2000 as well, just that its less liveable with than the Cayman... and not a fan of its EPS set up. If it weren't for that Honda fan boy tax, a S2 to me (especially an early one) feels like its worth as a 10k car.

Similar age Boxster S's can be had for far lower prices than an s2000 and offer a bump in power and likely have half the km these hopeful s2000 owners seem to have on their over priced cars.

from 6k to 20k in two weeks... good grammar from seller too.

"not a one single rust" and the picture of the tire at the wear bar are pretty golden.

Was that the disgusting one in someone’s driveway that barely looked like a parts car?

I thought I always wanted an s2000... but in one of the biggest “you should never meet your heroes” moments of my life, I finally did drive a mint example of one and I hated it... so I’ve been able to put my feet up and watch the prices soar in my own amusement ever since

Was it an AP1 or AP2 that you've driven? And how was the car being driven?

From my personal experience, the S2k driving experience is nothing spectacular until the car is aggressively driven, and you get to experience the VTEC kicked in yo moment first hand. Once VTEC takes over, then the car becomes crazy entertaining.

AP2... I didn't drive it super hard as it wasn't mine... but just not something I could live with every day... super cramped inside even compared to my MR2 Turbo which is saying something... no low end for city driving... noisy interior... I could feel the VTEC is fun and the handling/steering is razor sharp and the shifting is typical Honda smooth, but I didn't feel it was as fast or comfortable as my MR2 so it was kind of a letdown.

That's fair--especially the part about the car feeling cramped inside and can't adjust the steering wheel either. Though small inside, the nice thing is there's a good amount of headspace even for tallish drivers. In contrast, with an ND Miata, my head is touching the roof (since the seat rails angle upwards as you move closer to the front, and I prefer to sit relatively straight up as well).

Owned an AP1 for a number of years, now a Cayman R. Miss the S2000 especially the shifter but if I'm choosing between the two it's the Cayman R everyday.

Between any S2000 and pre-mid cycle Cayman, so the 987.1 shown in links above? Hmm, I'd say still the Cayman, but just factor in higher maintenance costs, like others have pointed out. Both are lots of fun so in that sense it's a choice between two great choices.

Speaking of S2000's, maybe someone with more money than I do can snag it up. This seems to be about as well priced as any S2000 I've seen in the last few years...

Correct you are. It's got $2k and $15k worth of claims.

I think this was for sale before but somebody has changed up the interior. :rukidding:

There's been a couple of M-texture seat sets for sale locally for stupid money lately. Looks like this somebody bought this car for the interior and is trying to get back out of the car at the same money. I'd offer 4k less.

320icar 06-20-2019 12:11 PM

@prududer Didn’t <insert red e46 m3> Just install the m-texture interior in his car?

tofu1413 06-20-2019 12:16 PM

swap the seats... but not door panels..........

i do like that m cloth interior though.
