That’s a steal, retired cop cars go at auction for$5k

trollface 10-08-2019 06:50 AM

Curious. What is the fascination with those cars?

What's the appeal of those things besides rolling around looking like a cop and everyone thinks you're an asshole?

If someone is looking for a cheap car, they prob want something that gets more than 10mpg. It's ugly af, and by modern standards, a pretty shitty car. Also, why do people think Ex-cop cars is such a great thing? It's been rode hard and put away wet and spent 99% of its life ideling on the side of the street.

Someone enlighten me as to why someone would pay money to look like a cop or taxi driver.

fliptuner 10-08-2019 07:04 AM

As far as I'm concerned, cheap 4.6 swap or highway cruiser. I'd buy it for the wheels and re-sell it.

Cuz they're crazy? There's a lot of cop impersonators out there (they'll throw on the search light above the mirror or glue hockey pucks to the trunklid to mimic radio antennas too) or just people that flat out enjoy the feeling of driving along in the slow lane and successfully intimidating other people into slowing down.

Also a lot of them get bought up by movie production companies or companies that provide cars for movie productions.

A friend bought an auctioned vehicle when those things were actually in use. Loved it, but absolutely hated it as he could never drive over the speed limit due to everyone around him. Haha

I assumed it's because you know the exact maintenance schedule they're kept to and parts are dirt cheap because there's so many of them out there.

2014 981 Cayman PDK -- $46800

https://images.craigslist.org/00Z0Z_...z_1200x900.jpg

I know some of us are not too fond of cars from Blitzkrieg, and I am totally aware that this is a PDK car. But assuming the car comes clean -- no sketchy history, questionable maintenance / repairs / conditions, I think the asking price is actually reasonable. I wouldn't say it is a smoking deal, but it certainly seems like a decent deal.

What's the story on Blitzkrieg?
Not in the market at the moment, but would love to pick one of these up in 1-2 year time.

Nice find, has just the right amount of options/spec. They don't come under $50k very often.

I know you're not really asking this, but I received top notch service by Shane and his guys at Blitzkreig. I'd recommend them any day.

The car sales side may be different, I've never had any dealings with them. I believe the general feeling is that they sell decent cars, but you're sure paying for it.

SkunkWorks 10-08-2019 05:03 PM

Blitzkrieg fucked me twice on my dealings with them.

First time I brought a 964 to them for a PPI. Not only did they disclose the report (that I paid for) to the seller without me even seeing it first, but they also told the seller they'll buy it if I bail. Essentially lost all my bargaining power and nearly the car itself too.

Second time they bought my 911 and then proceeded to fabricate a completely fake ownership and spec list when they went around to sell it. Nothing they claimed was true so YMMV when you base real facts off their listings.

I'm not alone on this. Bunch of other RS members have had horrible experiences with their sleazy, scummy, kingsway dealer tactics.

High KM (not high for a Toyota) GS400 for $2500. Two owner, local car

fool me once, shame on you

:troll:

any idea how much all that those pkg added up when it was new? no-frills base in pdk is what...63k?

why buy a non-S 5 years in no warranty and still have to take the big depreciation hit as a 2nd owner?

bcrdukes 10-08-2019 09:29 PM

For the service, Cheyne at Blitzkrieg has been good to me on two of my cars. My experience on the vehicle sales side was the opposite. I haven't been back to Blitzkrieg since they got into the vehicles sales. YMMV.

At the time when they were new, I think the 981 Cayman was only selling at ~$61k. And then you add your other options, and they really send the MSRP sky high:

PDK - ~$3k
Sports Chrono - $2.5k+
19" wheels - $1.7k+
PDLS - ~$1k
Sports seats - ~$900
brushed aluminum interior - ~$800

Conservatively speaking, you're now looking at at least $71k before tax and destination charges. I wouldn't be surprised if the BMC car MSRP for something closer to $75k or maybe even $75k+ when it was new.

twitchyzero 10-09-2019 07:23 AM

makes sense then

even though it adds up, those prices minus the aluminum trim look fair to me

This is exactly why specialty mechanics should not be able to operate as dealers, or at least not be able to do PPI. This isn't the only time I have heard of them offering to purchase out from under the nose of the buyer at a PPI. Not to mention the "oh your car needs about 10k worth of work, but lucky for you we will just buy it from you" tactic that their customers get to deal with now.
Wonder if that work ends up costing 10k after all that.
I used to go to blitzkreig, but wouldn't consider it after they got involved in the (scummy) sales business.

My customer requested a pre purchase inspection at Key West Ford on a older Ford Escape. After the inspection was done, the mechanic called a salesman and the salesman proceeded to tell him how this Escape wasnt up to par and they have a much better one in their inventory. This shit happens more than you think.

I tried to buy a car from BK, sales guy was useless, won't deal with them ever again.

I love it too. Those wagon specific taillights and proportions from the rear just do it for me, better than the sedan and other wagons. I wish I could afford to keep one running well.
