LOL - this is my old car, and oddly, some of my original ad content.. 4 first pics are mine from when I sold it back in 2007.

Unless he removed mods I sold it with, it may also include short shift kit, AEM CAI, those are JDM clear bumper lens, not DYI. Obviously lowered.. can't remember suspension set up. He wasn't a car guy but liked my ride so bought it. He may not even remember/realize the after market parts.

I miss her!

'99 Subaru Legacy Gt-B 2.5 Turbo Import

^ That seems cheap, until you realize there's almost an identical one w/o a blown engine for $8500.
1999 Subaru Legacy GT-B Wagon JDM - AWD+Twin Turbo

Unless you dyi, you'll be well over $5K for the cost of a used engine and install.

The earlier generations of the Carprice have the potential to be cool, but I can't convince myself to like this generation. At least to me, it is one of the most aesthetically unattractive cars ever made.

yes, i was looking at it as a base for a build/project, not to fix/flip.

You can have an importer bring it over from Japan for only 5k. You could even get a 5 spd for around the same price.

They're a dime a dozen in Japan and if reliability wasn't questionable it would be a great buy

This isn't local, so bring on the fails, but 21k and a trip to california seems like a pretty fucking good plan instead of those of you that would be walking into a dealership to pick up a new gti/fr-s/any other fun new car in the 30k range.

And how much do I have to put towards maintaining this :suspicious:

knight604 11-25-2014 07:08 PM

Like any other car

westopher 11-25-2014 07:09 PM

Depends on if you own a set of wrenches or not. Somewhere between next to nothing and a lot. They definitely require more money than some cars, but an e39 isn't an unreliable car by any means, nor is it new enough to be in the "computer only" era of fixing cars.
The 6 or 7k you save over a fun new car would get you through a couple years, and a couple years of 500WHP to boot.

To quote someone on an M3 E36 forum - Don't buy these old cars unless you are going to DIY on as many things as possible.

The truth is, rarely do these cars 'break down' per say. Actually the really big dollars are spent by owners who begin to fall in love with their car and then open their wallets to satisfy their OCD.

Isn't that the truth.
I've spent money on fixing things on this car I NEVER would have noticed on my gti. I've borderline lost my mind because of my e36.

Anyone know of this type r? Looks pretty beat, but then the price is pretty low. Rebuilt though.

Acura type r

white rocket 11-25-2014 07:49 PM

^^^Not a Type R. Looks like an LS or GSR maybe with a B18C5 swap.

westopher 11-25-2014 07:54 PM

I don't know the slightest about type R's but I knew that wasn't one.
