Should flag that then for misleading buyers. What are the usual cues to differentiate them besides the Type R decal?

hud 91gt 11-25-2014 08:04 PM

Yellow and White only. I actually know a chick that was convinced she bought a Type R. It was a black GS-R with a Type R badge. Ugh

Significant visual differences between Integra Type-Rs and other Integras include:

-5x114.3 hubs
-different rear LCAs
-different strut tower bar
-different size sway bars
-B18C5 engine
-8400 rpm redline
-black seats and arm rest with red stitching
-doors do not have moldings
-leather never offered
-sunroof never offered
-auto never offered
etc. etc.

The best bet is to decode the vin, however, so here is the guide to do so:

Example VIN
JH4DB7551WS000001

Seperate the VIN like so

JH4 DB7 5 5 1 W S 000001

JH4=Honda Motor Co. Ltd. Acura Passenger Vehicle

DB7 = Body and engine type.
DB7: 4dr B18B
DB8: 4dr B18C
DC4: 2dr B18B
DC2: 2dr B18C

5= Body and transmission type
3: 2dr 5spd
4: 2dr auto
5: 4dr 5spd
6: 4dr auto

5= Vehicle grade *note* - may vary from year to year...
1: Type R
3: RS no pass. airbag (94)
4: RS with passenger airbag (94)
5: LS
6: GS/SE
8: GS-R
9: GS-R w/ leather seats

1= check digit, disregard

W= Model year
R: 1994
S: 1995
T: 1996
V: 1997
W: 1998
X: 1999
Y: 2000
1: 2001

S= Factory Code
S: Suzuka, Japan

000001= serial number

In North America Type-R's were offered in Championship White, Phoenix Yellow, Nighthawk Black, Flamenco Black Pearl, and Milano Red. In Japan they were offered in Silver, too.

LYC 11-25-2014 08:22 PM

Type R's never came with a leather interior. Wrong strut bar as well.

i wouldnt assume its a b18c5 just because it has the red valve cover. can easily get a red valve cover on ebay

silva95teg 11-25-2014 08:32 PM

I am near positive type R's never had a sunroof either.

Acura type r

From what I remember this is a gsr with a full t1r header back exhaust and I think it's either got type r internals or some sort of cam setup. It's been around for a while

i wonder what engine this is. i would have to assume with everyone else that the seller advertised it as a type-r because it has a b18c5 swap? i can't read the stamp on the block, but definitely not a gsr intake manifold... i can't tell if it is a type-r one either because the strut bar is in the way in the pic. could be a skunk2 manifold bolted to a b18c1 for what little i know... seats are leather, but the door panels and the armrest are cloth. and i think someone already said the 4-bolt hubs are a giveway.

I assumed because of the intake manifold. There's so much non-ITR stuff going on in the photo that it almost doesn't matter at this point. Besides what Mindbomber mentioned, the true tell-tale sign is the rear subframe, the thicker rear quarter panels and the rear trunk bar attachment provisions. These are things that are not swappable between models within the DC2 chassis. VIN should read DC231 for the ITR chassis in North America. Dealers also offered a sunroof but it would be installed at the dealership, not the factory. There is one floating around the US that a friend of mine owned for a while.

Mindbomber: no Milano Red ITR's in North America unfortunately. Only JDM, UKDM and EDM markets received those. I'm actually looking to import an EDM ITR in Milano Red someday but the exchange rate is pretty shitty now and the EDM pricing is out of control. EDM = LHD and North America front end.

duy- 11-26-2014 09:35 AM

kinda wrote it off as a gsr as soon as i saw the color, kinda makes me wonder why type r had such limited coloring. off the top of my head
its either yellow or white locally, heard it could be red or blue in the states?

very low import numbers... not cheap :(

saw this online: EDM Honda Integra Type R

^^yeah, that's Matt's site. He complied that info after years of research and contacting the Honda/Acura heads offices around the world. Really cool guy.

duy-: no red or blue in the US. No blue available anywhere as far as I know. Vogue Metallic Silver was a rare JDM color offered though.

tegra7 11-26-2014 10:17 AM

Its most likely a gsr motor with a type r head.

Hmm...that would fit into my NC Miata no?

hud 91gt 11-26-2014 12:33 PM

Iron block though. I believe the benefits of the LS1 weight savings would be out the window.

Ahhh I'd sacrifice an extra 100 pounds to save a $1000+, you could use that same money for weight saving upgrades or more power.

Clean title doesn't mean accident free though. There could be a 15k accident in the history and still be clean title.

Still seems like a good deal though.. clean title is a major factor. looking for 'no accident' cars would be much harder.
