I had a 92 Sc400 for a few years. Rock solid. Big doors. The fuel tank is behind the back seats so interior space for big items is limited.
You can drive this for the cost of wear items (tires, brakes) and fuel.

Ya I don't see what's remarkable about that Shelby. I do like this line though, which one is it?!?! Quote:

It's not a Shelby. If it was, it would be the deal of the century. Everyone thinks an AC is a real cobra just like all the 356's rolling around. Real cobras were really really shitty quality. Look down the side of one and you can see all the waves in the panels.

Typical dealer, 1 line about the car and then a paragraph of their generic dealer garbage.
Also it's a kit car

A few weeks ago I picked up a new winter beater BMW X5 for $850 on Kijiji. It was in great running condition (only needed a thermostat, easy DIY) but needed a few cosmetic things sorted and some general maintenance. I've been picking away at it for the last few weekends when I had a bit of spare time. I was looking for a set of 19" wheels to run winter tires on (I already had a set of 19" winter tires that would fit the X5).
Just to close the loop on something from this thread a while back. Quote:

HUGE thank you to Bic_Baws for giving them to a fellow RS'er. I took them to Alloy Wheel Repair in Richmond and paid them to weld the crack and straighten the dents. Then a bit of sanding to tidy up the worst of the curb rash and a couple of coats of silver wheel paint and here's my X5, looking good (well, as good as an e53 X5 can look...) with a set of VMR V703 winter wheels.

That being said, I drove an 03 TT 225 for two years (it was over 10-12 years old when I owned it), I modded it to stage 1. The only issue I had was a failed coolant temp sensor, fixed with a DIY install of a new sensor). It was completely reliable BUT this is purely anecdotal feedback. The reviews on Edmunds with more data points still point to reasonable reliability for the 2003 models where I think some bugs had been worked out.
I'm probably more willing than many people to forgive the foibles of aging German cars (see my post above for the latest example). That 1.8T motor is in soooo many cars, the issues are well documented and parts are readily available and reasonably cheap. If you're a little mechanically savvy, easy to get ahead of failure points and address them so you're not left on the side of the road.

Ahh sorry I thought you thought I was trashing on anyone who took the wheels. Exactly what I meant, and you are not a broke skid fuck.
