X5s are like the manliest of all girly SUVs. I love them lol. It’s like a TR6. Girly but totally awesome, especially with some fat rear tires.

underscore 12-08-2019 09:33 PM

I really don't like any of the BMW SUVs (I saw a lowered X5 the other day that bounced like crazy, I was killing myself laughing) but for $850 that's damn hard to beat.

snowfarmer 12-09-2019 10:49 AM

It was $850 plus some parts and some of my time. I like working on cars so I didn't mind having a few things to fix, my current beater was all sorted out and it was time for a new project anyway.

When I went to check it out they'd had to smash the drivers window to get in because the drivers door handle carrier had broken (common e53 X5 issue) and the battery had died because they'd bought a new car and had left the BMW parked too long. They replaced the battery so it would drive but just wanted rid of it as it was taking up their only underground parking spot. It was without a doubt the dirtiest car I've ever bought and did NOT show well at all but somewhat uncharacteristically it had zero oil leaks (and yes, it had oil in it, that was the first thing I checked!) and was mechanically sound. I bought it, drove it to the wrecker and picked up a drivers window and door handle carrier for $150. I'm into it for $1,500 now with the things I had to do (thermostat, oil change, window, door handle carrier x2, driver's seat memory module) and a few weekend mornings and afternoons work fixing issues and cleaning it top to bottom. If I have a few more (non-engine) things that crop up with it, I'll buy a parts car to deal with them. There are always a few non-runner X5's for sale, all of them have the unreliable and expensive to fix N62 V8.

This seems like a reasonably priced 987.1 Cayman given the mileage. There are some potential gotchas with the 987.1, but given the mileage on the car, I'd say the risks are minimal:

a $5,800 CLK55, it's an '04 so later in the lifecycle of the model.

One for the "mildly unreliable aging German car" enthusiasts. I can't be the only one...

If you can even get him to commit to a showing. Tried to reach out several times already and he keeps giving the runaround. Don't bother with this time waster.

This sold to my friend, another RSer. The car was owned by an American who came to Canada every now and then. Everytime the seller went back to the states, he took down the ad. No oil leaks, if not minimal. Pretty good buy I guess.

Unicorn wagon with a bit of unicorn pricing.

2014 BMW X1 35i m sport, these only come up once in a blue moon. I checked it out myself, tried to make an offer but seller didn't bite. If anyone needs a Carfax for this specific car PM me and I'll send you the details. Along with a pre-purchase inspection.

I think the CLK55 was a great deal, just could never get him to meet up. Glad it went to another member and hopefully won't see it being flipped.

JDMDreams 12-12-2019 02:41 PM

Are the x1s any good? My cousin has one and I don't feel it being particularly nice or special. Isn't the turbo motor just waiting to explode like all turbo BMWs?

rebuild title probably, hard top seals leaking, due for rod bearings, throttle body actuator dead, diff not really locking............

re: x1 35i...i'd much rather have the wrx suv...can actually use it on gravel/service road, much better fuel econ, better resale, japan-built

cvt in sport mode actually feels relatively precise...and if you really care about 0-60 in your kid hauler then flash stage 1 and it'll be quicker than the 35i

2014 is a n55 tho, shouldnt that be much more reliable?

Good resale value kinda hurts you when you're buying it used....

And if you're taking about flashing, a tune on the n55 will blow the fa20 out of the water
