I hope whoever buys it doesn't get a VI

2010 Subaru WRX STI hatch for $16,500

Seems like reasonable price with reasonable mileage

Are the mk4 and mk5 GTI any good? I'm looking for a fuel efficient daily. Prices are kinda steep compared to let's say a mt e46 or e90

I liked my mk5 gti. It was very reliable, and decent on gas. Definitely better on gas than my e46 and had probably 70hp more.

MK5 and MK6 are the way to go - the MK4 is a bit more unreliable than those two IMO.

MK6's are below 10K now, good deal for a very good daily. Make sure water pump, timing chain tensioner and carbon clean intake manifold have been done. DSG transmission models better have service records for DSG fluid every 80k km or so or stay away.

unless youve owned something out of warranty for several years, it's kinda difficult to gauge at its reliability/durability

10 year old MK6 here. And most of the other members of the Mk6 forum are similar in story. Besides a few known items that I listed above the Mk6 is generally ok.

mk4s are fairly reliable if you get the 1.8T from 02-05 (180hp), hell i find those even more reliable than the mk5/mk6. Such little tech, simple cars, parts are literally everywhere. You deal with check engine lights and minor electrical problems here and there but you should know that getting into an old ass vw. Best part about the mk4 again, used parts are everywhere and CHEAP

mk5/mk6 on the other hand, I've seen clients with handful of dsg transmissions not engaging in gear or blowing up, highpressure fuel pumps going out, timing chain tensioner issues, oil pump issues in the oil pan, cylinder head cams getting fucked, oil consumption issues etc. i can go on.. They're nice cars to look at and drive. But I'd personally never recommend these cars to close friends. Of course, above mentioned depends on how the car was maintained.. but I've just seen way too many of those issues.

I had a 04 mk4 gli 1.8t 6spd with 320k for about half year last year. Zero issues, was such a fucking fun winter beater except a faulty maf sensor which i bought a replacement for $30

with that said, stay far away from vr6 mk4's. They are pieces of SHITS

i always thought these were cool. same with the 337's .

@badhobz - i'd say hold onto the sportwagon. tough to find a same replacement for that money besides going the subaru route.

This looks an awful lot like the one that Mighty Car Mods built. This small engine bay makes the B18C look enormous.

It costs whatever a red top 4age is worth these days. Blue tops and t50 are going up in prices. Drift tax is slowing becoming resto tax.
