I inquired about this car. Guy doesn't seem to be very knowledgeable about it: I asked him for service records and inspection report, and he said "look on windshield" and then told me he got the out of province inspection done at Canadian Tire, and recently did the rear brakes. That's about it. I also dislike how his ad is a copy/paste from somewhere else, because he listed "HPA quad pack turbo-back exhaust" (?????) And initially it said 75,000km in the ad description (has since been removed). Tread carefully.

Might have been for a VI? Records show it's been in BC since new.

Badhobz 02-14-2020 04:54 AM

I didn’t even know they had that generation of the R in North America. I thought we only had the R in the mk7s.

Hmmmm ... why would he need a VI if he listed it as no accidents. Maybe he took out the "HPA quad pack turbo-back exhaust"? Yes, proceed with care indeed.

But it is cheapest R listed out there. Getting into that $15K range, once that happens, I'm snapping one up.

Isn't the 2012 considered MK7? Are differences, if any, just cosmetic?

"Sometimes hard to start" on a rotary we all know what that means, but at $1500 its a decent base if you want to throw something else in there. I've seen anything from K-series to 1JZ to LS.

Nah, that's the mk6.

mk6 and 7 had some big changes, mk7 uses the new MQB platform which is more rigid etc.

This is a MK6 Golf R, imo it's pretty different since it's not on MQB.
No adjustable dampers, LED headlights, worse interior materials, about 50 less HP

As per Car and Driver's Lightning Lap, they're within 2 seconds of each other on VIR

I actually recall searing earlier R32's, even in highschool ~2003/2004, rare, but they existed.

The inspection report says both front windows tinted, material removed. Would bet he got VI'ed for that.

MB did some of the headbolts as a warranty service item. Alex Palmieri (Youtube; legitstreetcars) just did a video on a couple of these and one of them had the headbolts replaced by MB (logged in the service history).

Edit* Seller got flagged and made a new add ^ Above

https://vhr.carfax.ca/en/main?id=BlS...J9YgacTycUiKYr

Not a good buy (it would be if it were what the seller claims it is) but I wanted to warn those who think it is. I was going to go look at this and pulled a carfax. Ex alberta, a few accidents, rolled odometer. It has registered KM at 290,000km 4 years ago so likely around 320-350k. I told the seller and they said they would pull the add and disclose in the future to potential buyers. Turns out they took the add down for 2 weeks and its back up as a lie.

Stay safe revscene

Why you'd drop all that money into a non cobra convertible I don't know. But the engine and trans is probably worth the asking price.
