Alpina touring looks awesome but I bet its a mess or I think asking price would be higher.

I've never bought anything from status gruppe, but I guess I won't now.

The thing is, I'd hate for some kid to come along and think those would be a good way to spend 3k.
But like I said, maybe I'm just missing why that was a good buy. I'm here to learn damn it! :)

There's only a handful of daily posts in here. If every post is held to a rigorously high standard then it would discourage the people who actually do post listings on here on a regular basis. Obviously people need to use their own judgement and not just assume everything in here is an amazing deal

Jmac 02-28-2020 10:22 AM

Vehicles can look good in the ad and turn out to be way shittier than they appear (e.g. curbers, old pics that don’t reflect current condition, unadvertised claims, etc)

Value also varies person-to-person. Most regular people would likely not even consider most of the vehicles posted here, let alone consider them a good deal. GS8’s opinion of a good deal may not match mine, etc. We also have a wide range of incomes/spending limits. Some more affluent posters will post $100k vehicles. That might be a good deal for those who can afford it, but I have no idea being a middle class earner.

Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it

There's actually a very clean S54 (E46 M3) swapped, Imola Red, slicktop E46 ZHP sedan for sale in the states. Going for about 35-45K USD afaik. Has MTexture too!

I don't know the market for those things at all but $47-60k CAD for a repainted clone with 310k km on the chassis and 180k km on the drivetrain seems like an very large amount of money unless an original one with similar mileage costs somewhere near $100k. Especially considering the rather short list of mechanical work done.

westopher 02-28-2020 12:56 PM

There’s no such thing as an original one though. The only option is to build it. That said, that money will buy you the best e46 m3 (other than a CSL) on the planet, or an e30 m3, or and e36 and e46 m3, etc.
The impressive thing about owning a car like that would be saying you built it. Not buying it off of a wavy replica CSL trunk manufacturer.

snowfarmer 02-28-2020 01:39 PM

:megusta:

mmmm that Alpina. Even if it did have a couple of issues that needed sorting out, kind of like having a hot but crazy girlfriend. You often question if it's worth all the hassle, but it's so much fun.

That thing with a manual swap would be awesome.

I'm a bit lost here, how did an original not exist as a car produced by BMW? It says "donor M3" for the drivetrain and body panels and interior, is this not just a clone of an M3 made from a lower trim shell and parts from a presumably wrecked M3 of the same generation?

The Producer 02-28-2020 01:57 PM

^^ 4 door. BMW never made it

twitchyzero 02-28-2020 02:06 PM

different strokes, different folks

more power to those who build their own bmw M, honda R etc but not convinced it can command the price of a real one when you’re done with it

This is what you get, a whole mish mash of everything. Don't shoot the messenger, I was one of the few purist who wanted to keep this mainly a 'good buy' thread.

I would have liked a purist 'good buy' thread as well. However as said there is preference to have interesting finds as well, I think it's fine as long as its tagged as such.

There were posts where all that was posted was a link with no description and lets not forget users posting their own ads. Eventually would just turn this thread into a mirror of CL.

Simplex123 02-28-2020 02:21 PM

^ I think a mirror of CL would be quite an overstatement.. People posting here are at least posting cars with some kind of value to the thread - whether it be for entertainment or it actually being a great deal. The amount of users posting their own ads in here is quite minimal.. Maybe 1 in 50-100 pages.

Mechanically it’s probably pretty simple. Even a dunce like me can maintain an s52 with some sockets and zip ties. I’d really consider it if I didn’t blow my load already. If my wagon had the power of my e36 I’d enjoy it SO much more.

I'd be all over it if it was bone stock. Are those 5¼" speakers, cut into the upper door panel? According to him, power sunroof is rare on an Si. Lol

Mileage is unlisted, so I suspect it will likely be on the higher side. Man, why are old Honda econoboxes so expensive these days? When I was a kid, these things were probably 6G's all day long at with 1/3 of the mileage and age. An EP3 SiR hatch is half the price.

twitchyzero 03-01-2020 09:37 AM

because most are rusted to shit by now

Those also aren't competition wheels.
