I have a bunch of stuff to sell but in my experience every platform sucks. Wheels, tires, computer parts, even a laundry dryer are all sitting here because I don't have the time to deal with all the idiots.

That said where's the best place to sell/trade Porsche parts? I want to sell my 986 S calipers & pads or trade them for non-S calipers.

I find that having a realistic expectation by doing your market research on the selling prices helps immensely. What I usually do is search up the same item on a few platforms, and price it realistically 5%-10% lower than most others. I don't get nearly as much BS this way, and I have much less haggling.

But alas, you still get those offer 40% of your asking despite it being the lowest priced item on the market.

lowside67 04-11-2020 12:55 PM

As another datapoint - I posted some bike parts I had laying around (surplus tubes, tires, cassette, wheels) in 4 separate ads on Craigslist this morning. I took good photos, described them accurately, and priced them realistically.

2 of the 4 ads are sold already since 9am - picked up and paid for.

I believe that how we position our items as sellers has a lot to do with the type of buyers (or time wasters) we hear from. My ads are to the point, prices are noted to be firm, and I am clear that I don't respond to emails without a phone number. Maybe I lose a few buyers who think I am too difficult, but I find I get a ton fewer time wasters too.

I’ve always taken pride in my for sale ads, and the amount of stupid emails I get is quite low. You always get the tire kickers and low ballers, that can’t be helped. But if you’re clear, provide all info and adequate photos the only reason they need to email is if they’re actually interested.

I've tried all kinds of ad formats, all kinds of pricing schemes and even giving stuff away for free is a hassle. Maybe the people up here are more annoying because it's a smaller market so they know there are fewer prospective buyers, I dunno.

Weird. You'd think that with a smaller community there'd be less asshattery because the odds of someone knowing you and getting a bad rap for it would be higher...

People from Vancouver seem to love to lowball people from the okanagan/northern bc. "Well bro I have to drive 6 hours so I want it cheaper"

Not my fucking problem you're negotiating on a bike 6 hours away from where you live.

I had a 94 SHO years ago that was mint... what an amazing engine -- sound and running/performance wise... but the car itself was pretty shitty. I grew up riding in/driving Tauruses because my dad got them as a company car every year, so I had a soft spot for them... I really loved the SHO but yah even I could admit it was a great engine in a not very good car unfortunately.

If the mileage was a bit lower, I'd pick this up just for the engine to keep for some kind of project lol... seen these engines in anything from a 240z (local car was at the JDM show in North Van with a Vortech supercharger on it) to an older Lotus Esprit... not a "sensible" choice by today's standards for power or parts availability... but if you're trying to be unique it's a damn impressive intake manifold

2002 Mini S with only 13k on it.

A friend of mine had one of these. He changed the exhaust, put a different supercharger pulley on, and had a tune and this thing would keep up with my stock MKIV supra until around 100mph. So much fun.

I have experienced this with US buyers as well. However, knocking down a couple of bucks for the sale to go through is worth it when it's transacted in USD.

I had a set of 19" BBS CHs (1 cracked) for sale locally and stateside, listed at $750. Local buyers were assholes despite it being genuine wheels, US buyers were pleasant to deal with and thought it was a steal. I got $700 USD/$917 CAD for it, it was great.

I can confirm this. Back when I was giving away those VMRs for free, all the craigslist/fb idiots flocked with questions/"will this fit my car"/"when can I see it". It's effing free. Come get it and don't bother me. Thankfully it went to an RSer, whom I had a great experience with.

lol It goes both ways. Everyone and their dog from out of town coming into Vancouver say the same thing. That is just a buyers shitty logic no matter where you are from.

A lot of people from Salt Spring Island were the same way when I used to work in retail. "I came all the way over from Salt Spring Island, so I think half price is fair compensation" and they'd always ask to speak to a manager when I said no.

Worst case scenario, my GM was the manager on duty, and he was a complete asshole, so they didn't leave happy. Best case scenario, one of the other managers was the MoD and used to offer a free chocolate bar for their troubles, which they usually took as an insult.

Fucking SS Islanders, man.

One super saloon out of the M5s, AMGs I wouldn't worry about owning at that mileage.

if the item is of value, description is clear and price is fair there wouldn't even be a need to reply to lowballs...letting strangers get in your head is the comical part

it's on classifieds because you want to reclaim some space/money or both...price is always negotiable unless buyers are beelining to you

i paid this much new/i don't need cash/i know what i have...yeah that's nice why you listing it otherwise let it sit for another 6 months to 5 years lol

i find this often stems from a combination of the listing party being too sentimental/not ready to sell/not being realistic

as a seller set some expectations before meeting: ask what are you hoping to accomplish? if it checks out will you have a deposit on hand? you only attract time-wasters because your communication needs work

I had bought one in for inventory through auction in late 2019. A 2014 with 50ish k on it. Nice truck. I believe it transacted around $23k.

Only took it for a brief spin but a cool truck to drive. Best of luck with your search!
