i can't think if a $64k porsche I'd want less than a PDK Cayman
All of these would be better choices for me
997.2
996 turbo w 10k thrown at it to make it bulletproof
964 (borderline at 63k but maybe doable - JDM?)
SW's 911SC
981 Cayman S

Personally, I wholeheartedly agree that the 4-banger sound track is vastly inferior to the sonorous notes the 981 flat 6 makes, but other than that, I'd say at least some of the hate on the 718 is unjustified. After all, the 2 cars still share a lot of similarities.
One thing I really like the 718 over the 981 is the vastly superior acceleration. With the turbo engine, a 718 S can really burst into some high acceleration g's in a way that a normal 981 S wouldn't be capable of.
I'd prefer a 981 over a 718 as well for a number of reasons, and price is definitely one of them. But I wouldn't say no to a 718 S either if the price works.

Here's a 3.8L flat-six for 45K with 110,000km on it. Manual trans and it's a Carrera S. https://kelowna.craigslist.org/cto/d...108221214.html
Why do I have a feeling that Porsche isn't about HP figures (on the lower trims), 355HP isn't a lot.

I always enjoy the times when I get to drive a Porsche, but that one time when I had the opportunity to take a 997 turbo out for a rip, OH MY GOODNESS OOH LA LA~ It was very, very impressive.

One of these days, I need any of you guys with Porsches and M3s to let me sit in while you drive.
I've never understood the mystique/hype, so I want to really honestly understand all of your passion. I'm NOT knocking them - I just don't know. I've never sat in a Porsche. I've been in 2 BMWs and driven 1 BMW for a test drive.

You can drive my e36. You might be impressed, you might not. The e36 is fast enough I think most people will enjoy it. Its turn in is fantastic, it's confidence inspiring, it's incredibly well balanced, and it feels VERY small for a car that can fit 4 adults.
The e30 is much more of an acquired taste, it's slow. PAINFULLY slow at low revs, but starts to feel fast above 4500RPMs. As a result it really rewards you for pushing it. You can't really overdrive its handling. Its feed back comes from everywhere. The pedals, the wheel, the sound....It completely captivates you in a way that you'd never believe such a slow car can. Also, looks are subjective, but fuck...the box flares are iconic. It's such a simple and classic design IMO. People have their tastes, nothing right or wrong, (unless you are really poorly modifying a car or have some weird obsession with an F-body), so if you aren't into it, I get it.

Having owned a few BMWs and on my second Porsche, I think the easiest way to explain it is that these cars are just well balanced throughout - engine, chassis, suspension, dynamics, all put together in a nice package.
I think for the sake of argument, and having driven the IS-F (my cousin's) the experience is similar, except that the IS-F can be a monster with the engine it has. I can't speak for the E30 M3, but my old E30 was slow as shit at low revs, but like westopher said, once you push it in the higher revs, it rewards you kindly. Add to that, cars like the E30 and E36 M3 don't have wild nanny devices, so it's all up to the driver to make it happen.
If you read my post in the BIC_BAWS thread on the Audi S3, a few people mentioned that while it is a fast car, it's kind of blah, leaving you wondering, "Okay, what now?"

"Okay, cool it accelerates.. and?"
Edit: And the e-tron.. at least the e-tron has paddles LOL
