I believe it is, but I think what the guys are referring to the "Turbo" is a specific trim model, just below the Abarth trim/model, being the flagship trim for the Fiat 500. They are different in their own ways.

The turbo and the abarth are virtually the same other than exhaust, some badges and the rear subframe/suspension setup. So I’m confused about the one I posted. It’s either not a 2013, or it is an abarth and when rebuilt they used the cheapest parts available.
Either way, I forgot about the abarth. Definitely a car to watch for cheapo ones as a fun commuter

oh man. loved my 13' abarth
one annoying thing that made the difference between the two cars was the intercooler set up. abarth ran a dual small side mount intercoolers while the turbo ran a single.
that in turn fucked with the turning radius. the abarth has a turning radius of a small boat....
abarth gains the Koni FSD shocks in the front, bigger brakes, nicer seats, forged wheel option and la piece de resistance: factory straight pipe exhaust.
i got pulled over by VPD way back when i first got it. cop said modified exhaust no muffler. made him google on his phone to show that it was standard stock issue exhaust. got away scott free and biker cop dude said sounded pretty gnarly for a tiny car...

how reliable is an used abarth 500, assuming the average example probably gets beat on?

Every article says fiat has a horrendous reliability record. But if you talk to actual owners (the ones I know) track their cars, and outside maintenance have had zero issues. So YMMV

18K KM of hard driving.
only thing i had was a HVAC panel light bulb burn out and the brake rotors on the front were a bit warped surprisingly.
car goes through front tires easily, so a tire rotation should be done every oil change imo.

So YMMV | Consumer Reports only has enough data up to 2015 (sales figures drop off significantly starting in MY 2014), but the 2015 models had shored up most of the deficiencies with only Power Equipment and In-Car Electronics rating well below average and everything else average or better. Owner satisfaction also clips up from well-below average in 2012-2014 to below average in 2015.
The 2012 and 2013 model years seem to be god awful ranking well below average in engine, transmission, brakes, paint/trim, body integrity, body hardware, power equipment, and in-car electronics and below average in suspension.
Also, consider that the Abarth had a peak production of 3000 units/year for North America. Fiat sold about 196,000 500s in the US and 25,000 500s in Canada, so you're looking at maybe 15,000 Abarths of those 221,000 500s sold? The Abarth really isn't going to make a dent in comparison to base-model 500s in terms of reliability figures.
Same with any other model's high-performance/luxury edition (e.g. Civic Type-R, Focus RS, etc.) unless they designate it as a unique entity.

I’ve owned my 2013 abarth for 6 years now. The only issues? Front of the car loves rock chips and one of my interior map lights stopped working. Otherwise, it’s been completely reliable.

Not a good buy for most of us I'm sure, but for those who care, this current owner bought it from an old neighbour of mine several years ago (99% sure it's the same car), who very rarely drove it (had it under a car cover for the almost 10 years I lived at home). It's in flawless showroom condition, Madeira Purple, genuine AC Schnitzer everything. I nearly bought it from him way back, but he was asking too much for it so I passed. https://vancouver.craigslist.org/pml...147089685.html
Not sure what condition it's in now, but it was absolutely mint back then.
Also clean late-model 6spd TSX. https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van...146591772.html

Having said that, his does conveniently come with a set of TSX wheels +great winter tires, has all service records+two owners, but I would pay no more than ~$6,500-7,000 for his car.

Good luck on your search!

^ that ISF... god damn.... the right year too, post 2010 came with Torsen LSD, but 2012 is the first year where the car was faster than the M3 around the ring...
Honestly... would be such a cool car to own, it is the right car for the right person.
I dont have the means, and not old enough to give up manual yet... (but mostly due to not having the means, looks @ wallet, looks at mortgage and 2 kids :smile

I was shocked to be driving being a E92 M3 yesterday and he ripped it a bit in first gear and on decel there was so much blue smoke pouring out the tailpipes. Kind of sad for such a relatively new car. Not the first time I've seen that from those cars too.
