2003 E55 AMG - $15700

I remember seeing this a couple weeks back posted for $17,500, and now price has dropped

in the ad he says hes a "very motivated seller"

a lot of HP for the $$ and the M113K engine is pretty solid!

^^ that's a great deal if no big issues, it was at $19500 before, and kms are still relatively low and doesn't seem bagged on. If the airmatic has been done it should be good for another couple of years.

2007 Porsche Cayman (987.1 non-S)
$21500
139k km
manual

Price-wise, this seems to be a good, but not spectacular deal. However, the car is accident-free, have all service records available (all done at Weissach), and that makes it all the more attractive.

Now, I am personally hesitant on picking up a 987.1 for a number of reasons:

- bore scoring issues
- camber challenged
- common OEM shifter cable issues
- IMS

But none of the above changes the fact that the 987 is a highly enjoyable car to drive. The rest will depend on your comfort and risk-acceptance level.

21k for that (coming from someone that doesn’t know the market) seems incredible.

Its the smaller 2.7L with a 5mt. Not an S. Not the most desirable drive train. Still better than an auto though.

The chances of it being an issue are pretty small, and it seems to be common on cars that have been sitting for an extended amount of time.

scored cylinders are more common. 07 should have big bearing already. so cant change without splitting the case.

thorough PPI will include scoping the cyls - 400 bucks well spent if you're committed to the car. they'll pop the trans drain to see if there's any sludge in there indicating the pinion bearing has puked it's grease. way less common on these car though.

you can be afraid of IMS or you can accept that it's just part of owning one of these cars. Personally, I think it's overblown - especially by the mid 00's.

there are some that think the little motor early cayman's will be sought after in the future. Such outstanding little sports cars. This is sub S2000 money now - and it doesn't feel like you're riding in a tin can (never meet your S2000 heroes)

I'm actually contemplating a 987 Cayman S over an E46 M3 (never meet your M heros). I prefer the 987.5, but that's out of price range for now. And that's M2 money LOL

If you are interested in the car -- go for it! As Producer has mentioned, get a thorough PPI to verify the likelihood of the cylinder bores showing signs of scoring.

At one point, I actually contemplated whether I should go ahead with that one myself since the price is really attractive. After all, if the engine does go kaboom, it is "only" $21k down the drain. If I can somehow afford a brand new Cayman (haha~), I'd lose that much in depreciation anyway over a year or two.

Honestly, IMS does not scare me, esp when that car already has some healthy mileage on it. The thing that bothered me the most about that white Cayman was its base engine. Even with the 3.4L engine in the 987 S, the chassis is begging for more power. And after driving wimpy gutless cars pretty much since forever, I am craving for something with a little more oomph.
