You'd definitely wanna have the VIN checked out before making any exchange. Same as any car though.
Probably the only reason the ad is still up.
If the body is clean, anything on top of that is a bonus for $1500, way i see it.
Always loved the mk1. Makes me wish sometimes i wasn't the average white mans height :hi:

I'd be concerned about a rusty floor. That seat bracket is hella rusty, and the fact that there is a rust puddle on the carpet under the pedals and the window is down in all the photos...

I'd definitely check to make sure, but even as a track only car that's hard to beat. $1500 for the car, $2000 for a newer gen motor, freshen it up for $500 and for $4k you've got a <2500lb mid engined go kart with a bit under 300hp.

Bastard. I was on that thing like flies to shit. I think I was 2nd or 3rd to contact him.

Give me a head up on the partout please.

GIZZ 08-15-2020 02:36 PM

I would have offered over asking. Bruce emailed me back when the RX7 sold. I have no idea how somebody was able to contact him before me. Maybe he read his emails newest to oldest? I was wondering who else has cash on a Sunday. My buddies and I were thinking it was a bogus ad, especially how he wanted the car to go to a good home, way too much personal info in ad. I guess you never can tell.

For more specs on the car look back here on RS were is was posted and sold several years back. I copied and pasted his description into google and the RS post was there, another reason I was sceptical.

Jesus, i know they are worth a dollar and a half, but 14k for that.... il give him benefit of the doubt that it looks shinyish after a wash.

there are deals to be had on cars w rusty floors. Sometimes a shitty vapour barrier in the door kills a floor. Good part is - as long as the repair is solid you never see it. It's not THAT expensive compared to typical bodywork and paint.

that car is gross - but for the right guy, it's cheap.

twitchyzero 08-15-2020 11:55 PM

who said it here, when buying used you're buying the previous owner, not the vehicle

no title and and the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey inside, i wouldn't even want it in my sight

pennies on the dollar and you have too much time, but probably right that's the cheapest ticket into MR

i guess to say a good deal isn't always a good buy

nobody just abandons a MR2, unless

68style 08-16-2020 12:20 AM

I don't buy the buying the previous owner thing... sometimes maybe? But just like one of those home renovation shows, some people see the beauty in something or can imagine better than others what something COULD be... that's what you're buying...

Any old car in need of restoration looks exactly like that inside. I've bought at least 3 cars that looked like before. I didn't succeed in getting too far with a couple of them due to practicality / life concerns, but I also didn't lose money on them either.

There's lots to love about a MK1 MR2... but as anyone that has owned one can attest to there's also a lot to potentially hate too. If you join the BCMR2 page there's quite a few derelict ones changing hands here and there.

twitchyzero 08-16-2020 01:00 AM

maybe i watched too much hoovies garage/tdib

i just scored this off the auction for 3k but already put another 5 in! or trans goes few thousand miles after motor swap..that just seems stressful and i only have so much hair to go grey

these are getting up into the late 30s 40 year old range now

your labour hours are not value-less: i ask will i even care about this few years down the road, if it's a no then i'm leaving it alone

welfare 08-16-2020 06:52 AM

I don't think it's that bad. You can see the car cover next to it in the pic posted, and it's been parked on gravel/cement, not grass or a moisture retaining surface.
If it's still around after i clear up some space, maybe I'll go have a look. Only way to know.

68style 08-16-2020 11:02 AM

I’ve texted him a couple times to no avail so far...

Edit: He responded, wouldn’t give me the VIN# and said it was abandoned at one of his buildings and he’s getting his lawyer to get the papers and once he has them he will be asking “much much more” for the car

Sounds like a mess, not interested

fliptuner 08-16-2020 02:55 PM

Sounds like an "I know what I have" kinda guy. Good riddance.

snowfarmer 08-17-2020 10:33 AM

I took it that twitchyzero was playing out a Hoovie's Garage video in that comment

Hairy car to drive and requires plenty of respect to drive.

Nice example and unusual color. Will be a nice car to keep around imo

^ I only knew those existed because their injector seals are an upgrade for my Jeep :lol

That's a hell of a unicorn to import though.
