iirc its a mustang design element on the original to have a symmetrical dashboard like that

i actually prefer the 90s one, can't stand chrome bezels
yes the shifter/cigarette lighter/cloth seats will bother me and the clock/radio's gotta go
i know the classic corvette had the symmetrical design |

I miss mine... had 94 and 95 LS400's at various points... these models actually aren't all that luxurious (not that many options) but they are absolute bank vaults. The owner is mistaken about the power levels though... 90-93 were 250hp 94-97 were all 260hp... which I would not call a dramatic improvement hahaha... I think they are referring to the 290hp which was on the 98-00 models.

^ Is anyone familiar with the Z3M? The mileage seems quite high for an M car, and with 240 HP, I'm guessing it's the North American E36 engine? $15k seems quite cheap for an M car though. Do these have the rod baring issues of some of the later M cars? Maybe with it being a detuned M engine, it will be a bit more reliable.

Yes to NA E36 engine, not sure about rod bearings (I think no), VANOS is gonna be an issue like the 46, as well as subframe.
I'm sure Westopher or The Producer have more to chime in about

I was looking into these a few years ago.
Yes, for sure check the subframe.
The engine is robust and while it does have Vanos I don't think the S52 had quite the same problem the S54 did. I would think the roof, bushings, engine mounts etc. are more likely to be what you'll be fixing at this age.
These feel way faster than they are. Lots of fun on the road, won't be super quick at the track (take the E36 M3 for that).

been watching that car - price is finally dropping into a more reasonable range (he's wanted closed to 20k for over a year - clearly too high)
the NA market S52 motor is incredibly stout. I wouldn't worry about the motor. Single vanos is pretty easy to DIY. First thing all new BMW owners should do w cars of this vintage is change the complete cooling system.
Specific to the Z3M there is a "rear subframe" issue. It's a bit different than the e46 cars. The rear diff has a mounting tab that is riveted to the trunk floor like an E30. This diff "ear" will start to tear apart from the trunk floor. This is relatively easy to look for on inspection (you can see the rivets from inside the car) if they have blossomed or mushroomed than it has begun. Easy fix for one of the pro shops but you're going to spend 3-4k on it.
I like buyers that spend the money on supersports. Falls under the "buy the seller" category.
Rest of it it just wear and tear. I love these cars - they feel like a classier Miata. You're sitting over the rear wheels and they just rotate around you. Plenty of power in stock form for mobbing around town, and incredibly boost friendly if that's something you are interested in.
Go drive it! I'll bet the seller is motivated to let you take a spin in it.

PS the clown shoe is super overhyped - a Z4M coupe is all the good things, far less of the crummy things, and same or less money

Someone buy this before I do. https://vancouver.craigslist.org/nvn...196803903.html Quote:
Hate to sell it, but find I use my truck 99% of the time. Have had this original Brian Jessel car for a couple years, before that a friend owned it. All maintenance is up to date including a new clutch, brakes, and tune up. Recently added the new wheels and all season tires to make it look a bit cooler (my kids tell me there's no way to make a wagon cool, but we know better, eh.). Also put in an updated stereo with bluetooth. It's ready to safely and reliably get you through the winter and many km beyond that. Text or email to come have a look!
