Spoiler!
These aren't actually good buys (unless the previous owner dumped $$$ into it). Speaking from first-hand experience.
Quote:
I'd be weary of calling it reliable, depends on maintenance history. This gen of 3VZ-FE cars (including ES300) has PS issues. Rad fan is pump driven so if your PS pump isn't running well, your car could potentially overheat without you knowing. I've replaced every single gasket except for the head gasket on my ES300 as it was leaking everywhere. Had nonstop PS pump and hose issues (probably just from deterioration/age). Also torque converters are weak on these, mine was rebuilt by previous owner.
I think I spent around $3500 or $4000 in total fixing everything, including a ton of time looking at the PS system which was giving me headaches. Ended up selling it back to gf's grandpa and her uncle is currently driving it. Might take it back down the road cause it actually drives like a cloud on wheels

Also worth mentioning that they're disgustingly bad on gas. 70L tank, 50/50 hwy city combined, I'd be lucky to get 400km out of a tank, which averages out to around 17.5L/100km.

Given the mileage, it's a fair price. They tend to hover between $10K - $15K, sometimes more as of lately. To be fair, the engine used in that car isn't 100% perfect, but overall rock solid and reliable, so the mileage is not that huge of a deal.

Edit: Wheels are suspect, as they appear to be aftermarket, but I could be wrong. They usually come with the famous monoblock wheelset, but I know they offered a few wheel options. Badhobz may know better as he owns one.

I remember they had these two piece five spoke wheels that lots of people hated (i liked it actually, but not on that car)

and later iterations came with simpler wheel designs. But wheels wise, im sure a set of oem's off another lexus will solve the problem

Wondering if this is regular dealership tactic to get you into their shop, or a new thing during covid inventory supply crunch.

Dealership I bought my car at, just called me out of the blue and said they had a "buyer" for my car. Funny thing is I sold it privately already 2 years ago.

I can't imagine there are too many buyers looking for a 20 year old Subaru Legacy in puke gold, with about 280,xxxkm on it. Think I paid like $3k, sight unseen for the car back then based on an employee tipoff. It was a fresh trade-in, and I rolled the dice on it.

Def a tactic. You will be offered a bit over retail price for your car if you buy a new vehicle from them.

Thought so. Weak attempt then, could of followed up instead of just hanging up after I told them I don't even have the car anymore

For $5000 I’d probably prefer to buy a car 10 years newer even with the low K

Can you actually buy a 2010 Civic with ultra low k for $5000? Seems surprising to me.

He likes to exaggerate things.

Back to the car, 9k with clearcoat peeling because it's "common for those years" More like "car sat outside forever not cared for and the first wash done in x amount of years is to take pics for this listing".

I think he meant even the ultra low k on this Civic was not enough of a selling point for him to want to buy.

Well to be fair, if it sat outside (looks like it has, headlights look faded too) and wasn't driven, it is very possible !

Clearcoat peel is absolutely not common for this generation. On the other hand, the 8th gen Civic seemed to use crappy paint; I’ve seen quite a few with no clearcoat missing on the roof and trunk. Either that, or the owners like to use dish soap to wash them.

I believe there's a recall on some 8th gen civics for clear coat issues. It's a well documented problem

The best part is that, when I reached out to the dealership after receiving a similar email saying someone wanted to buy my car (which is a lease - so this would be a early lease renewal thing), I was told that they didn't actually know what car I had.

After I told them the specifics of my car, they were basically like nah sorry dawg we don't want it anymore.

Like for fuck's sake ever heard of doing some research first?
