2001 Porsche 911 Turbo - MANUAL! - $40,000 (Yaletown) Quote:
Reduced price due to a couple maintenance related items that may be required on the car. Please let me know if you're interested or would like additional information.
| It's probably $20K below market value. I'm guessing it needs a new engine or something if this is real.

Anyone have experience with drive motorsports in Richmond? Went in to see a car they had listed on autotrader without a price. Got there and it was parked on the showroom floor but the salesman said it’s not for sale

which car?

I'm not sure what's with mazdas but older ones are pretty much worth nothing. Look at mazda speed 3 or 6. Maybe because they like to rust?

Neither of our cars were "80's Japanese car rusty", but both had lots of rock chips that would lead to small spots of surface rust.

if rock chips go deep enough on steel hood better to put clear coat/lacquer if you dont want micro surface rust
dont think it's specific to mazda...i've seen in toyota, suzuki etc.

Maybe because they like to rust? | The MS6 is known to rust on the leading edge of the hood because the way the hood is stamped, moisture gets trapped under the fold and rusts out from inside. Hoods are hard to source because they didn't make that many of them.
The other weak point is the rear diff. The diff itself is ok, but because the mounts are made of tofu and when it moves around it grinds itself to bits, especially when you put a lot of power through it.
Some expensive bits like the keyless entry credit card remote, same thing as the RX-8. Weak aftermarket. Carbon'ed valves that could probably use a cleaning, by extension also the injectors could be cleaned as well. Zoom-zoom-boom if you aren't careful with it.
Otherwise it's ok, no major major weak points imo, typical Ford era Mazda stuff, minor electronics. The seats suck, way too flat and designed for fat people.
If you want a decent AWD manual 4 door, it's one of the few you can choose from.

I wanted a MS6 so bad back when... test drove a few... almost bought a few... but every time I test drove it, I couldn't get over the non-recirculating turbo system... the fact it vents to atmosphere in every gear change and the turbo has to spool back up again made pretty much every at-speed 1-2 shift jerky as anything...
It might be okay if you're not used to anything else, but like my MR2 recirculates so the turbo doesn't lose spool in between gears...
Also the clutch engagement on every MS6 I drove was tricky as hell... unnecessarily high engagement point and grabs like a mofo, almost no give before the bite point... and the interior of that era Mazda6 is pretty shit, passable but not very nice surfaces to touch. Flat seats like someone mentioned.
I still have a soft spot for it though, keep my eye out for a decent one. They're getting super rare now though.

I like them too, especially in Black Cherry Mica, too bad it's US only. Almost pulled the trigger on a BCM that was imported, and another one that was white pearl as well. Ended up with a MS3.

Living here in Ontario for the past four years, my general observation is of all Japanese manufacturers, Mazda is the absolute worst and most notorious for rust, then Subaru, and Honda. Not very many Nissans on the road here.
A colleague of mine had her Mazda 3 (brand new) rust in a a matter of 3 years. Silly girl trade it in, got a CX-3, and is already rusting.

There are a lot of Nissans on the road that are typically no more than three years old. It's rare to see anything over 5 years on the road for a Nissan because they either rust, or suffer from general mechanical failures, and/or lack of maintenance, leading to people dumping them and leasing a new one in a few years. Same for Infiniti.
Lots of Toyota and Lexus here, but almost never rust, unless there was an obvious accident. There's a Gen 2 Prius in my condo that's rusting, but to be fair, the owner told me he has 650,000km on it, so, yeah.

When I briefly lived in Ontario I'll never forget seeing an XTerra around that was only a couple years old and the hatch already had rust everywhere. It was actually impressive in a way.

I also love the black cherry mica | If it was swapped to atmosphere and untuned, then yeah it would definitely drive like shit. The BPV on the stock DISI motors typically leak when you put more boost in as well. Quote:

Early Mazda3s were definitely notorious to rust, especially Winning Blue for some reason.

Mazda was one of my first jobs back in the day when the Speed 3 and 6 came out, basically learned to drive manual on them. Definitely one of the most tricky and finicky manual trannys out there, 68style was bang on in his description. Most of the points have been addressed, definitely look at the rear diff if interested, known to be weaksauce. Still love them, cheap speed for sure

Rebuilt title from the original engine catching fire according to the previous owner before me and he swapped in another 3S-GTE so if seller was trying to say rebuilt title is from front end damage, that's not the case but it could have had front end damage after I sold it since it was about 5 and a half years ago.
