you guys talking about cashmere all i can think about... https://y.yarn.co/b4dd95d4-6835-4855...5a_100_h_6.gif |
Figure get a quicker response here regarding buying used winter tires Looking at a few different sets, you guys think there would be any issues with buying rims that were on a rav 4 225/65/R17 for my wife’s G37 that stock uses 225/55/17 Should be able to accommodate the extra sidewall no? Or will that be too much/too soft of a ride |
Her Speedo is going to be like 10% off if that matters to you? Offset is the same/clears your brakes? Extra sidewall should be fine fitment wise it won’t rub |
Doesn’t matter about the Speedo just concerned with the sidewall but I think it should be fine I just had a look at the clearance now and the gap is pretty big stock offset should be fine as well I believe |
That is a ton of extra sidewall though. Even though you probably won't have issues just bolting them up, likely you will get rubbing on fender liners on any bumps or sharp turns, and front to back, bumper/fender contact is likely. I'd bet whatever money you save, you'll spend on fixing plastics, and having a fender liner come off on the highway due to rubbing is a real fucking no bueno time if it gets bad. I have no idea with g35 specs, so I can't say for sure, but that kind of increase is not negligible. |
Yea after sifting through all the BS on CL and market place I think I’m just gonna track down some stock rims and buy new tires fuck it |
0.85" extra sidewall is a fair bit for a car like that. Maybe bust out the tape measure first and see what the clearances are like. edit: new tires is what I did a few years back for my wifes car too. With what people wanted for used tires it was only a few bucks more to get brand new ones from Costco (after the rebates). |
Yep, and then you know they are getting stored correctly, and manufacture dates and all that shit. Buying new tires really sucks. They are expensive, then somehow your $830 set ends up being like $1300 once they are on the fucking car. But having the longest possible time before you have to deal with it again is worth the premium. |
The funny part is I've never dealt with it more than once on a vehicle. We don't drive much but somehow I'm always buying tires for everything and then end up selling the vehicle or selling the tires with almost all their tread. It's weird but just once I'd like to buy a set of tires and wear them out before they get too old. |
Sounds like you were looking at Toyota wheels too which might have a different center bore than the infiniti. Just another reason to pay for convenience of knowing what you buy new will fit properly. |
I don't bother with used tires anymore. Typically only savings of 20-30% for 5 year old tires with "85%" tread. The last straw was looking to buy a set of winters that this guy's daughter bought 'new' 2 years ago - showed up and they were so old the rubber was shiny and hard as plastic. Claimed it was tire shine and started berating me when I turned to leave lol Rather spend the few extra bucks at Kal-Tire or Costco for road hazard, fresh rubber, and lifetime free rotation/balance which is worth its own weight in gold. |
Same. No more used tires unless it is from someone I personally know, and that's usually among car clubs, and I know that it's in great shape/usable. |
yea its kinda shitty cause generally i'm in the same camp as Underscore where you have basically brand new winters by the time you sell your vehicle and dont really get the "full life" out of them.. although thats moreso to do with having older vehicles as well than the tires. But yea dealing with the headaches of buying used and the unknowns dont seem worth it Next vehicle likely be brand new and i'll buy some winters right away and get that full life out of them lol |
