A lot of conflicting information in that ad. Si originally came with a 1.6 but his ad mentions a 1.5. 1997 civics came with a 1.6.

I'm not saying it's a bad car but it sounds like this car may have gone through a couple of engines.

2001 honda prelude, immaculate condition, 5 speed, newest price $4,499
1998 honda civic EX no accident - $1900 AUTO but claims it has a new engine/transmission

Good deals ONLY given that the stated work was done, and done properly.

you gotta get the 2001+ qx4's and pathfinders for that 3.5L motor.
I have one right now and it is a big improvement over the 3.3 in that 99

Pretty good deal on that Prelude, having the red key and not being an SH are a plus. If they didn't replace the hydraulic timing belt tensioner (prone to failure) with a manual one during the rebuild I'd be a tad cautious with that mileage since they're interference engines.

Check the clutch pedal assembly for stress/bending and the shifter cables for slop/stretching as those are common problems you can use to knock the price down even more but are easily fixed by swapping in 4th gen parts. Also check the trunk for water by the spare tire since leaks are common (again not a big deal) and the outside door handles not going flush when released (yet another easy DIY fix to knock down the price).

The 3.5L makes a huge difference in performance. Its at 300k and its still going strong.

IIRC, the ATTS parts on the SH are prone to failure as the car gets old. And then they are a bxtch to fix. There is also a slight weight penalty ( <100 lbs).

The ATTS really isn't beneficial and adds more failure points, additionally the engines for the SH are only compatible with SH transmissions so if you ever have a problem with the transmission you're either spending a pile of money and waiting forever for a trans or doing a motor swap. The non-SH engine is compatible with transmissions from all the other H and F series engines (excluding the F20C from the S2000) so if you ever had a failure you can fix the car extremely cheaply. This goes for the auto Preludes as well, and since the 5g auto is all but guaranteed to fail the auto SH ones have kept the demand for an SH manual trans pretty high.

With all the time I spent researching the auto -> manual swap on le gf's Prelude I know far more about those things than I ever wanted to, IMO a manual non-SH makes a hell of a nice DD with only a couple minor issues that can be easily fixed when they pop up.

That's Jim Cross. Super nice guy, original owner of his 91. He helped me through the collectors plates process on my car. Car is truly in amazing shape. He's selling to get the 2016 NSX.
canadian nsx prices are a little bit wonky because of the crap CAD..

I'm curious why NA1's are still in the 40's when NA2's can be had for somewhere in the 60's? There's 2 on Prime that I'm referring to. Do people feel that the NA1 holds value better because of potential collector status? I would much rather have an NA2 due to the updates and it being more modern looking.

My 997 Turbo plans have been trumped by my obsession with the "H" so I'm moving onto an NA2.

Drive a 997TT and NA2 back to back before making a concrete decision.
