I think the biggest difference between a Toyota (or any Japanese manufacturer) and a BMW is that on a Toyota, the issues you listed can be ignored, while on a BMW, only leads to catastrophic failure and pits it at the bottom of the depreciation curve. I don't think a BMW would be able to last 200,000KM with these issues.

^^ this, cuz everything is either you fix it before it explodes or it explodes and your car is junk. Or needs $5000 to redo everything. Japanese cars just don't have the overly complicated systems where everything is tied together. I had the trifecta lights on my bmw, and the "forums" say is x. But it's never the cheap fix. O it's just the sensor. It always ends up to be the most expensive option, your abs pump is faulty and it's like a $2000 part. And the car is worth like $5000 on a good day.

I don't know if any of you follow this guy on YouTube, his BMW restoration videos are so good. His final line in this video after a quick update on all of his cars "Right, what's reliable enough to take home?.....Nothing"

I watch his videos but the dude is pretty much a mechanic will full shop and hoist and not a regular dude.

Up until recently, he was a full time IT guy. Wrenching on cars was his hobby. In the latest video, he notes he quite his day job to focus on the YT thing.

I like the content so far - everybody else would edit vids down to half the length. This is a slippery area - retention requires that people watch the whole video to help the algorithm (and the ad rev).

Biggest surprise to me is that this guy has never come up in my suggestions (that I have seen) I'm all around it, so something about it isn't triggering the algorithm for me.

I know a house builder that is offering lift installs and sales with his new builds. Chinese 4 post lifts are dirt cheap - if you have room for one.

^^ I wonder how that would work. As all the houses I've seen only has height for regular cars. The only houses that I see with tall garages are the mansions in butt fuck nowhere. Some sort of permit? I was thinking of digging the foundation then install a car elevator for more car storage.

PEAK Manufacturer for Car Lifts

This is the brand of the lifts we use at our hobby shop. They "seem" safe, in the sense that they are obviously mechanically locked out. Ours are included in our shop rent but if I had to buy one, I would consider it.

They were selling some on CL last year for around 2k.

You don't need a lot of height for a 4 post. Some don't even require that you bolt them down.

Quite a few people in various FB groups I'm part of are putting in 4 posts into relatively small garages. Biggest concern seems to be garage door openers and rails. Those can be modifed w side motors and the rails can typically be raised.

The guys I'm talking about build in the valley - lots of people putting in huge garages.

You'd need the width too, if I put in a hoist I wouldn't be able to park on the other side of the garage. I'd love to get some Quick Jacks or something similar one day. That'd be a good compromise for a smaller garage.

They'd have to be pretty low profile, I did the math on my Celica and an MR-S and it wouldn't fit, even without factoring in suspension droop.

I never got how a performance brand like BMW can have standard seats that are flatter than what you get in a base Civic/Corolla and that you have to order the sport package to get something resembling a bucket seat.

Otherwise, that's a dope ride. Love me the E46 wagon.
