I think it varies from car to car, I've only driven each a little but the 2nd gen MR2 felt a lot more likely to bite your head off for a mistake than a 1st or 3rd gen. That may just be down to having a lot more power, so it takes a lot less action from your right foot for things to get out of control. Plenty of people have built them to have crazy power without killing themselves so it's not like they're complete deathtraps. Unless you're in the habit of driving beyond your limits and just barely saving it, but in that case that'sa you problem and not the cars fault. It's supposed to be safer to be in an impact facing backwards though so you could almost call it a safety feature (on the assumption that you'd have crashed in anything, the mid engine just made it more dramatic).
If I was rich I'd have one of each gen in my collection for sure.
Oh and don't ditch the spare tire up front for "weight savings"

I can't say whether it was the drivetrain layout (AWD RR) or the specific car (a 997 4S), but when driven at 7- or 8/10th, it was overwhelming my senses in some very enjoyable ways, all the while still showing all kinds of composure as if it was just another walk in the park.
The weight hanging all the way in the back was very evident though, and it felt weird , probably more because it is something unique and something I am not at all used to. Carving through a large radius sweeper, you know that weight is trying to work against you, but the mechanical grip and whatever other magic Porsche did keeps you glued to the ground.
By comparison, a Cayman ripping through the same turn felt far more natural and intuitive, and was the better dance partner.

I've had this amazing car for over 7 years and unfortunately I need to buy a work truck instead. This is a bit of a rare tsx; it is black with black interior with a Manuel transmission. The car has a ben garage kept for mover half its life. This car is priced to sell but will consider reasonable offers of course.
I've always run 91 octane gasoline and used mobil one synthetic oil. Word done in the past year:
New breaks ( Rotors, callipers, pads)
New rear Wheel Bearings
New AC compressor
New starter
New tires

Had a manual Alfa 156 diesel rental to go all over Europe back in 2005, it didn’t let us down at all despite having 140,000kms on it when we got it (pretty sure the rental guys in Amsterdam were fucking with us), blew the rear shocks out of it on some bumps we didn’t see in Rouen France and in 2 weeks with it none of us could figure out how the fucking climate control system worked....
... but loved every minute of it, I miss me some Alfa

1985 MR2 with only 63'000km on it. Silver paint and great shape in and out it looks like. High price at $10k, but might appeal to an old school MR2 lover out there.

Not really a high price given the condition and mileage. Likely a really good buy for someone that wants a Radwood collector that can still be driven occasionally.

1988 Shiro Special (SS/Super Sport). Engine recently seized and will either need to be rebuilt or replaced if restoration is desired. Vehicle will therefore need to be towed if purchased. I haven't really maintained it over the last 8 years or so and it's time to let it go.
Nice project car if you can afford to restore. Only 1002 Shiros were manufactured for the US market (about 200 I believe for Canada). Rare car then and much more now given most have been scrapped. At the time, it was the fastest production car out of Japan with a tested top speed of 246 km/hr with the electronic speed limiter disabled.
Drivetrain was good until the engine seized. Suspension, steering, brakes good. Windshield cracked, front end/bumper obviously needs work, rust not bad except rear wheel fenders, + other issues that I'll relate for those interested.
$950 OBO.

I assume the correct move would have been either A) Slow down on entry because you can't brake in a MR car during a corner then gas as you hit the apex, or B) Eased off instead of complete lift off of the throttle? | Never lift mid corner.
Don't lift when it slides out. Just counter steer.
Avoid rapid release of throttle/deceleration and you won't have problems.
Don't lift.
Driving an SW20 is like riding a motorcycle.
Get all your braking done on the straight.
Hold Throttle.
Don't chop the throttle.
Apply gently on corner exit to straighten it out.
And you won't highside / "SnApOvErSteEr"
I did some real stupid shit in my MR2 and never "lost it"
If I could find it I would buy it back. 100%. Never should've sold it. Sorry bcrdukes. |
