Aside from known recalls what else is there to watch out for in those motors? 555hp but a quick tune can put them at 700+.
I believe it's the first generation E53 model that's notorious for blue smoke from the V8

Not sure about the generations after that.

Yeah I'm looking at the early S63 engined E70 X5M's (2010-2013), with the twin turbo 4.4L.

What about Cayenne?
They've dropped a lot in price and some of the facelifted first gens are pretty affordable for a car that was $100K new.

I think the Turbo V8 still has the cylinder scoring issue and you also need to look for one that has had the coolant pipes upgraded to aluminum. All that said, being a glutton for punishment when it comes to high maintenance Euro trash, 10/10 I would buy a Cayenne.

Something like this might be a good option:

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/nvn...304472851.html

2011, 98KM, $29,900, this one is the updated body style, only issue is the meh color combo (white/tan).

2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Serviced at Weissach (All Records Available)

Fully Loaded with every single option including PCCB (Carbon Ceramic Brakes)

Currently on Winter Tires on Original Turbo Wheels but I also have OEM GTS wheels with Brand new Summer tires.

Please Email for the fastest reply.

Must be Gone by Monday or its going to the dealership.

Thank You

^color would be the least of my worries when the car has pccb lol. $4g PER rotor to replace when its due. Why anyone would option that on a daily suv still blows my mind.

Can you convert back to steel brakes? Aren't carbon rotors supposed to last lifetime of the car unless they get damaged?

Fully loaded, baby! Besides, how many high end Euro owners are thinking long term ownership with their cars, esp when it is something like a Cayenne? You just get rid of it and pick up something new before the majorly expensive repairs / servicing are due.

Also, when you are leasing, even an $8k option probably wouldn't inflate your monthly payment by all that much. And a lot of times the lease expense can be written off anyway.

When you are paying 170k for a vehicle, that 8k spread over 5 years doesn't add enough to notice, is the point he's making.

Also big chunk of $8k will go into residual value, which you are not paying if you return it at the lease end.

Thank You
I inquired about this car last week when it was for sale for $37,900.
US car that spent a month in Florida before being shipped to Montreal for 3 months and then spent the rest of the time in Van.
I just couldn't get myself to accept the tan interior. Guess it sold at $30K.
A few 2012/2013 Turbo's are still asking for $50K plus.
But if you are willing to go down a 957, they are in the $20K range. Such a huge drop in price when you go down to a VW built Cayenne.
A 955 Turbo with the 4.5L V8 can be had for under $10K is quite tempting.

Why is it even available as an option? Nobody will ever use one of those in a way that would even remotely need it.

Oh right, idiots with too much money.

I've never been a fan of the Cayenne, they look like a bloated Matchbox 911. If I ever buy a Porsche it's a proper one. Friend of mine just bought a GT3RS and it's obscene, I'll have to keep saving haha.

I was interested in the E70 X5M because they've dropped down in to the 25-35k range depending on mileage and options. I also know a good BMW tuner in my local area. They're a far better looking SUV IMO, more muscular. I was hoping to build a 700hp sleeper for 50k or less but if they're a wholly unreliable platform then why buy a headache. This is definitely my style over the Cayenne.

EDIT - jpark/underscore are bang on. Having run carbon rotors on the road and the track I really don't get why anyone would actually option them on a street car. A rock chip and they're toast, at great expense. They are insane on a track when they actually get up to temperature but on the street you're just waiting for them to get damaged and cost you money.

^^ what about a diesel x5, probably will leak like a sieve but I think it's more of a sleeper. Maybe introduce yourself to one of the bi turbo Amg, even the 6.3l na should be more reliable than bmw

Definitely on the first gen pre-facelift 955's.
Their front bumpers look like the 03/04 996 front bumpers.
